@Kitteh: yes well english needs rules to give it structe and meaning. imagine reading a story in which moose had six different spellings. or knight.... it isn't easy.

I think language is just another form of EXPRESSION.
There are guidelines for dance, but if everyone danced by a specific set of rules, than wouldn't dance be boring? It takes flavour, and talent to put a spin on things, and make it your own.
You're both looking at it odd for both majoring/minoring in English!
I mean, well... The written word is all about interpretation, subtleties, innuendos, hidden meanings in the text, symbolism...
If the word 'barrel' represents a feeling of uselessness, well... HOW THE HELL DOES THAT SEEM SIMILAR TO THE DEFINITION OF A BARREL!? D:<
