Kat, I took an oil painting class...it's..interesting. Not my thing, but fun. It just takes sooo long to dry. I love my watercolors

I love watercolors too! it's my thing. I'm not a big fan of acrylics either, but I can use them. I'm just a bit worried to use a media I know nothing about.

Ooooh, I have mostly semi dry watercolors, in block form..I have this russian watercolor set...the name escapes me, but it's pretty expensive. I think I got it for 75? And it comes with maybe 20 colors or so..... I also have one thing of white in a tube, but I pretty much never use that. I had a teacher who was like "good watercolor NEEDS to white!" you know....sometimes its hard leaving places sans paint!

I have really cheap watercolors...there's only 7 colors I think and I don't know the brand because I lost the box they came in.

seriously though. cheap is good. you can do a lot with texture on cheap ones that you can't do on more expensive ones. that trick with salt doesn't work on my watercolors

I can do the salt with a few of the colors. generally its supposed to work better with certain colors. some don't stain as well and such.

I have a book on watercolor painting and it says that

Salt is often used in snow scenes or backgrounds. it will only work on nonstaining colors. Here, blue is a staining color and brown is not. Apply the salt while paint is slightly wet.

That's prett neat, I might have to bust out my watercolors and try this. Its been sometime since I have worked with any of my art stuff :sweat:
