I was reading up on calio cats and why they are most usually females... ^^ Pretty interesting.

Haha... wouldn't it though!? But actually, some calicos are males :O They only pretend ot be females :ninja: and then only 1 out of every 3,000 male calico cats are capable of breeding. For them to be calios they have to have XXY chromisomes, so that usually makes them sterile.

There are colored crystals too, Zeph...like amethyst, topaz, etc...

Crystal relates more to the structure of the mineral.

I've never heard of a male calico cat... but I suppose in nature, anything is possible.

I love rose quartz. It's really really pretty.
I actually like it better than amethyst.

I have a Texas Star blue topaz gem.
It's been cut so that when you look down into it, you see a star.

I just wish it were a deeper blue...it's almost clear.

I think the majority of my collection is quartz and calcite.

Calcite is pretty too.

I have orange, green, gold....

I have a HUGE chunk of tigereye.

I also have quite a bit of petrified wood.

Some fossils too...ammonites, etc.

Back when I had my little business, I would read mineral magazines and books all the time. I knew just by looking at them what all the rocks and minerals were.

It's been a number of years now, and I've forgotten so much!
I keep thinking that one of these days I'm going to get back into it...

I have never been good at identifying my rocks or collecting. I don't know where to get things.

I know where NOT to get things...that's at the souvenir rock shops at tourist traps.
I know where they get all their rocks...from a place called Pikes Peak Rock shop.
Most of the stuff in those places are things that I bought from that wholesaler also, so I know that they didn't come from the local area.

Mmmmm hm. I go to this huge North Eastern rock show in Mass every year, along with tons of little ones. I've been a geology girl since I was little.

I have some interesting ammonite pieces, and two smaller ones I will one day turn into a set of earrings.
Even though it's simple, I think my favorite standbys are: fluorite, labradorite, kyanite, and anything silicate-based (omg! That's 90% of rocks! Jk jk)

For real, I am a huge rock geek, Linny has me pinned. I collect things whenever I go away just for ha-has. I have agates from a beach in Oregon, as well as pieces of 1900 year old lava flow (and more recent pieces as well ;) ) from Mt St Helens when I was just there.

I had a beautiful moss agate ring that my Mom had given me, and I lost it.
That was years ago, and it STILL bothers me to think about it.

I love labradorite!
I'm a fan of azurite and malachite. I have some wonderful pieces.

Mmmm both great! I had a nice malachite piece too, and it came to college with me and I think it was lost in translation when moving in and out.

And that's too bad! Moss agate is super pretty! :O

I've got rocks strewn across my room, from TONS of smokey and clear quartz I got myself from a huge open vein in this old mined area up the road from me, to big hunks of amethyst that my brother gave me before he moved across the country.

I also have a dozen or so less expensive cut stones in a little pouch (so I feel like a pirate) including citrine, peridot, madera citrine, ruby, garnet, uh what else.... pink tourmaline, blue topaz........can't think of the rest.

Where is Pikes Peak? I know where Pikes Market is! :D
