“Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.”
So simple, but very visual.
And I blame the Weasley twins....it was their potion.
WHERE dips the rocky highland
Of Sleuth Wood in the lake,
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water rats;
There we've hid our faery vats,
Full of berrys
And of reddest stolen cherries.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim gray sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And anxious in its sleep.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
Away with us he's going,
The solemn-eyed:
He'll hear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hillside
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into his breast,
Or see the brown mice bob
Round and round the oatmeal chest.
For he comes, the human child,
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than he can understand.
Pretty sure I have most of that memorized just because I've read it so often
No problem! I like Omnia a lot....Very mystically faeryish music. I have their live cd on my itunes, which includes this, and I love it when it comes on. It's something you want to listen to with candlelight. You know, to add to the air of mystery :D
I'm glad you enjoy it! I actually LOVE when artists put poetry to music, since the two go hand in hand. Plus, it brings in a wider audience to great works, and peaks interest, so people who would not normally be exposed to the poetry will look it up <3
I have a few artists I love who do this....Loreena Mckennitt is one such. She took Yeats, Tennyson, Patrick Kavanagh, and other poetry and set it to music.
that is really cool. I know The Alan Parson's Project did a whole album based off of Edgar Allen Poe's writing. They have a song on it called Nevermore. There's also the tell tale heart and one based on Cask of Amantiago. creepy stuff though I don't necessarily like their style of music much.
the heck? I have Fanfare for the Common Man stuck in my head...
