Oh, I get the Greek mythology references. But I can't ignore the 1940's context, either. Most of the centaurs have Caucasion features. The ones that don't (the shoeshine girl and Dionysus' zebra 'taurs) are cast as servants. The shoeshine girl was originally in the movie, but censored later. For a reason.

yeah, but only one is white. and the zebra's needed to be in there. they fit entirely with the scene and the fat drunk kingish person.

If you ignore the colors and just look at the facial features, most of the centaurs are white. The zebras did not need to be zebras, or have African features. Why did they?

I don't think it really got close enough to tell on the zebras and the slaves of the time depicted would have been dark skinned. the shoeshine girl looked out of place, but everthing else seemed the way I would have done it.

Of course, then you could get into whether enslaving people of darker hue is offensive or not. Honestly, I have a hard time placing this into a time period. It's a dreamy pastoral piece full of mythological creatures... Could be anytime, anyplace, you know?

yes it could, but the pastoral nature and mythical point makes it seem old timey greek. that and the stomping around on grape to make wine and the time of chalice the king drank from. I'm watching the ending part now. I like that part the best I think.
