@Cica: At her current rate, she'll get to the unchartably awful choices within the space of a year or two, tops. If she hasn't already. Depends on who you talk to.
Some days, I do feel like I missed out on the whole marching band thing in high school. (Not that orchestra wasn't totally worth it.)

I played the 'cello, Kat. Not sure if I still can, though. It's been years. And it's impossible to march whilst playing the 'cello. XD

LOL. I'd love to see someone march and place the cello at the same time! :lol:
Marching Band was fun, but... I'm so glad I never have to do it again!
This year was awful. My color guard captains were controlling and ruined the fun of it. And my friend was one of those captains! We're no longer friends because of that whole experience - in my mind, anyway. I think she still thinks we're friends, despite all of the weird remarks she's said to me and all she's put me through. :insane:
@Kat: Have you heard of the Cavaliers? Our marching instructor was in the Cavaliers... :drool:
They're the best of the best... Their field shows are all over YouTube! I'd highly recommend seeing them!
...And I'm pretty sure marching with a bassoon would end in death. :shock:
Our band doesn't march with trombones - although some do. Our tromboners play tuba instead...

I hate marching season because it just gets too hot down here for it and then its usually windy too with super bright sun. colorguard nightmare! I never liked our one captian, she broke her ankle once and all she could do was yell at us because she couldn't spin. she still thinks she's friends with me too, but we never were friends.
cavis?! of course! my director was also in Phantom Regiment, all of my directors actually because they met at DCI. I love their Machines show. I think some of the people I graduated with even joined the Cavaliers.
really, we had trombones!!

I've spent a fair amount of time speculating with friends and family about how marching with a 'cello could be accomplished. Wheels on a chair, or the endpin, or both, tend to be the preferred ideas. XD When you're talking about an instrument you have to sit down to play...
Heh. Bassoon marching. I'd love to see that.

I have seen people march with a Bassoon. its plenty possible to play while standing. my brother doesn't really play anything but his guitar now. He even stopped playing his sax when marching with it because it made it harder to play the bassoon during concert season.

@Kat: Machines. Is. Friggin'. AMAZING! :shock:
I also love their businessmen show... I forget what it's called, but the colorguard wears business suits!
@Wings: Hey! <3 =3
Yeah, we're having a conversation loosely about marching band/band in general. xD;
I was in guard with... myself. :gonk:

I think public school's better than private, as far as the types of people you'll meet. :sweat:
Then again, I'm a supporter of diversity, so... I suppose opinions vary.
One thing private schools are better at is getting their students' grades up. :lol:

@Cica: well the orchestra people i knew were pretty cool! and at times more spazzy than the guard.

@Facade: My public school really wasn't that diverse. It's a pretty rural district, really. You're more likely to find diversity in your urban schools. Just depends on where you are!
@Wings: My orchestra definitely had its weird people. In a good way, mostly. I'll admit to not knowing a lot of the band very well. It wasn't a huge intersection, and the band was huge.
Actually, it was the drama people who were the weirdest. Some of them were in orchestra or band (or choir), too. :)

Clarity? Melody? Were they your field show themes? :o
My freshman year, we did Chronometry; I wasn't in it freshman year, of course. P:
And then, sophomore year it was Storms - again I wasn't in it. But I was in indoor that year!
Junior year was Circuitry, which was the year I joined.
And this year was the Incredibles... our music was from the actual movie. =3

indeed how did we get to private vs. public schools??? oh well I say public school is better.
yeah melody has a lot, show facade that one though, i mean we did win state with Melody.
@Cica: hehe there wasn't a whole lot of intersection at my school either but I hung out with 2 or 3 people in the orchestra and then dated one...

@Wings: I guess I don't mean that we were strictly segregated into musically-based cliques -- it was impossible not to know someone in band in my school -- but you know how close-knit a music group can get, even a big one. Especially if most of you have been playing together since fifth or sixth grade.
Ooh, John Mayer! :heart:
