First song I heard of Loreena McKennitt's was her version of "The Highway Man." Thought it was absolutely amazing and have loved the rest of her stuff. I think I've heard of Gaelic Storm (I think they did a concert around here a couple years back?), but I haven't heard their music yet. I'll give them a listen though.
Alcohol has a weird effect on me. After just a sip, all the muscles in my body start cramping up and aching. After 20 minutes or so, that dissipates, but I'm left feeling sleepy. Needless to say, I don't drink often, and only if it tastes good. (No tequila, ever. I had one sip of a long island and was sick all night. My mom's allergic too. =P)
I love the Highway man! Oh so amazingly haunting. I saw her in concert in Burlington, Vt a year and a half ago.
Gaelic Storm is pretty good, they gained popularity thanks to being in Titanic (the steerage band that plays). I've been to a few of their concerts, met them. (super cool, all of them. Their fiddle player went to my college so we chatted about geology)
@Woody: That's cool! Both going to McKennitt's concert (I've never been to a concert before, except for a free One-Up's concert in the park last summer XD) and that you met one of guys from Gaelic Storm. I'm really enjoying the song you posted.
For some reason drinking green beer just feels right, but only on that one night. I've got Guiness for when I get home from work. What I am really waiting for is the fresh soda bread that I will make in the afternoon <3
Tav: Yah, they are great, really high energy, etc... plus GS uses unconventional instruments like didgeridoos and electric bagpipes.
Ooh! Wiki says that practicing and playing a didgeridoo can help improve sleep apnea by strengthening the muscular airways. Maybe I should suggest to my dad that he learn to play one. XD (He would never go for it.)
Haha, I love didgeridoos! I have one and have been playing for..... 5 years now? *sigh* it's the only instrument I can truly play well. I dabble in others.
How old are you Kat/ Wings?
It's all good, I didn't really drink till college, and even then it wasn't an every day event like it seems to be for some ppl. :/
Wow! That's awesome! I'm not sure I play anything well, but I play flute, piccolo, and piano (though I haven't practiced any of them lately). I have a guitar, banjo, penny whistle, harmonica, and chanter also. The banjo and harmonica were my grandpa's and were given to me just because I'm the only musical person in the family (I probably won't ever learn to play them). I can play a couple things on the penny whistle but I never got the hang of it. The chanter I just didn't have the lung capacity for. And the guitar I still want to learn to play, but I've loaned it to a friend who's been teaching himself (pretty successfully) to play.
sorry guys I'm reading a fanfiction right now so I keep getting distracted. Kat and I are definitely the youngest ones in here right now (18 and 19) but I've tried alcohol.
:D That means I am probably the oldest person in this thread right now if Tav just turned 23, I am 24 :P
I have tried banjo! It was fun, but I gave it to my brother in law, because he uses so much more than I ever did. I can pick out a few things on the piano, I can play around with a penny whistle and a bohran (mostly Irish fun stuff on the penny whistle and bodran). Mostly I sing. I am a mezzo soprano, but often I just go down a little bit for alto, just so I can be consistent, lol.
I would love to play either the harp, fiddle, or even a hurdy gurdy
