Well, for as much debris and stuff that happened, it's really amazing that there weren't people killed.
That tire alone could have killed 2-3 people going at the speed it was.
It took 3 guys to carry it out of the stands. It wasn't just a tire...it was the entire WHEEL...with part of the axel.

Wow, yeah that sounds dangerous... do the crowd start moving away from the stands right before the crash?

It was the final lap of the race...
The crowd was moving CLOSER to see the finish.
Before a crash you don't know what's going to happen, and during the crash everything was moving too fast.
The final 10 laps now...but caution is out.

Caution is the yellow flag, and they aren't allowed to pass each other. I think they have to go a certain speed? I dunno Jean probably knows more than I do.

Sorry.
I left to watch the end of the race.
It was on Fox.
Jimmie Johnson won.
Danica did well...she was running 3rd until the last lap, and then ended up getting pushed out. But she ended 8th, which was great!
My driver, Jeff Gordon ended 20. So he had a great day starting out, but it didn't end well...

43 of them start the race.
I think there were only 25 on the lead lap.
In Daytona, if you get in the wrong lane, you can end up going to the back really fast...

Do 43 always end the race?

I don't remember a single race where all 43 ended the race.
There are always crashes, or engine problems, etc. that cause some cars to leave.
There are also the "Start and Park"ers. The teams whose entire business plan is to make the race, do a few laps, and then leave the race.
Even ending 43rd is some decent prize money in the Sprint Cup.

They save their cars and engines.
So they don't have to have extra engines or cars, and they make their money and go home.
A regular driving team always has at least 2 cars at the race track, and probably 8-10 more of them back at their businesses. They bring different cars to the different race tracks.
They also end up tearing up the cars a lot at the tracks. If you're always driving towards the top, you'll end up in crashes quite often.

They employ a LOT of people to build the cars and engines!
For each hot shot driver, there's a team of at least 40 people behind them.
The pit crews, the engineers, the fabricators, etc...

Yup. But the tires are supplied by Nascar at the start of the race.
It's always a different compound and a special tire for each race.
The teams still have to pay for the ones they use though.
That's why the start and parkers just do a few laps, so they don't have to use/pay for more than one set of tires.

Most of them don't have sponsors.
They're in it just for the prize money.
Like I said...it's their business plan.
They make money at it, so they keep doing it.
