Do you think they're worth it? Also, after you buy the collectible items with mennies, how do you sell them for gold?

How are they NOT worth it? 250 Mennies for one collectible is equivalent to the $2.50 you're paying for one anyway. The only difference is tha you can save the Mennies instead of buying a CI instantly. Which means you can save the Mennies for next month, or the month after, and so on. So of course it's worth it.

You sell the collectibles in the Menewshan Exchange forum (through trades). There is not marketplace to sell them just yet.

Ok, Thank you. About how much gold could I sell the collectible for then?

It's ultimately up to you what you sell them for. :)

New CIs generally go for between 750 and 1,250 gold per item, depending on availability in the marketplace and how popular the individual item is. :)

I find the purchase of pixels with real money a complete waste of money. Sorry, but it really is pointless, pixels are not THAT important it's fruitless.

You're very welcome not to spend your own money on us, Bella Cullen. For those with small incomes, it probably doesn't make much sense to do so!

Unfortunately, we haven't yet figured out how to run Menewsha off of back pats and yays, so we do hope that those who can afford to will sacrifice a cup of Starbucks every month or watch a movie at matinee price rather than a late-night showing show they appreciate the site and hope it continues to run by buying a set (or more) of Contribution Items from us. :)

I don't think it's anymore fruitless than spending money on merchandise for an overrated movie or book. I'd rather spend 10 dollars on Mene than go to a movie and listen to girls screaming whenever someone takes off a shirt.

I think it's certainly worth it. Sites like this can't run themselves :) I think it's quite cheap, actually. Just a really cute 'thank you' for the donation to help keep Mene going.

I am at quite a loss as to what movies you are talking about. As your description makes it sounds like porn. O.o
Although in seriousness I agree with your stance that perceptions of value will differ from person to person.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say they're talking about Twilight movies. Boys take off shirts, fangirls scream and giggle wildly.

Ah, yeah that makes a lot of sense. That sounds about as entertaining as when I went to see an action movie with some international students. As they were not completely used to swearing in movies the laughed a lot every time someone swore. Being an action movie they swore like once ever 2 min or so T_T.

Anyway with your clarification, I would definitely put mennies above that experience. O.o

Yes, we like to call that the 'Toilet' series in our house. Of course, we are adults, and therefore understand how things such as the economy function. Bottom line: if Menewsha gets no support, it cannot go on. It's really that simple. Although, I made myself a promise - For every $5 I spend here, I have to give $50 to Haiti (through the Red Cross!). I think it's reasonable.

We do have a guide here which shows all the poses in our recent CIs:
http://www.menewsha.com/forum/gaming...tem-poses.html

It doesn't have all of our CIs because in September 2008 we switched from one-pose CIs to multi-pose CIs.

Keep in mind that you can purchase one CI and be able to equip everything in that CI as long as it's not on the same layer. (ie: If the CI had a crown and a cup you could wear both at the same time. But if it were a crown and the same crown in a different color, you wouldn't be able to wear both at the same time.)

My comment was directed really towards movies. You see movies once, and that's it. You pay 10 dollars generally for 2 hours of enjoyment. I've had items here on Mene for months and months, and have gotten more joy out of an item I've paid $2.50 for than for some less than stellar box office releases I paid half my soul for.

When you give money to Mene, it goes to the people who make the items and to keep the site running. When you watch a movie, the majority of it goes to people who are already so rich they aren't waiting on the day that check can be cashed to ensure their survival for the next millenium.

But there are other things people pay more for than a contribution item that last just as long or not even as long.

I think it's worth it.
I've always tried to donate a little bit each month to the sites I use the most often. It might be free for me to use the site but I appreciate that it's not free for them to run it. I don't mind giving a couple dollars a month to help keep the site going, fund the updates and improvements...
The items are kind of a back burner thing. I would still donate if there was no pixelated gain from doing so.
Granted, I'm still somewhat new to using Mene so it's not something I've budgeted into the small amount of money I have available each month. Once I get more into it I might start to donate.

As everyone has said everyone's value is different and in this case I DO in fact beg to differ. As long as you will use the item such as a t-shirt or a backpack *coughtwilightitemsiboughtcough* than something you can touch is ten times more fruitful than a pixel which you can not, it just sits there and looks nice.

And when a movie does not look super great to me I certainly will not waste money to see it in the theater, I will wait to accept an invitation and treat or wait for the DVD. To give an example, Tim Burton's upcoming Alice in Wonderland. I will not pay to see that movie as I am not jumping out of my seat over the commercials and I don't like that story. If someone invites me and offers to treat than yes because as my mom says there is no good reason to turn down a free movie no matter how good it looks. But I will not pay my own money to see it.

they're basically the same thing as purchasing the contribution items like last time, just a little more work. I have no problem with them. Just the little thing that pops up and tells me I'm out of mennies annoys me sometimes but yeah XD

If you don't have a credit card, use paypal with a checking account.

I'm someone who has no real means of purchasing Mennies because the Philippines is not part of the list of countries that the current SMS services will cater to and also because Paypal can be... annoying, to say the least. ^^;; I still think that Mennies are worth it though, but only to some degree. I personally wouldn't use too much of my money to buy them, but I wouldn't mind spending a little on them. It's the least I can do for the site. And coming from me who used to despise the idea of spend even a little bit of money for pixels, that says something about how much I like this site and how much I'm willing to do to help it stay afloat. =) <3<3

It's not a problem for me right now, as I can't even buy in the first place. xDD;; But those are my two cents on the matter. :'>

Also, off topic, but in relation to the earlier reference to $10 movie tickets, I just realized that our movie tickets here are so cheap! o_o;; I calculated our costs and converted it to dollars, and we only pay around $3-$5 for our tickets, if I'm not mistaken. More if you're going for Imax, 3D, or the Lazyboy (sp?) theaters, but generally that's still less than the regular $10 tickets you have. xDD;; And our theaters are actually nice, I think. $5 gets you the pretty and new ones already. XP

But that's besides the point. xDD;; Just felt like adding to that discussion as well. ^^;;

I think if you spend a lot of time on an avatar site, and you have the disposable income to spend on contribution items, and you *want* to - because it *is* optional here - then go for it. I mean if you're gonna enjoy it enough to justify the expense, then its worth it. If it's not worth it to you, then save your money. But its totally up to the person and we're all different minded, so I say do what is right for you!

since I only spend about an hour a week on here, and I am already using my disposable income on other things, I have not yet decided to purchase mennies. If I end up really liking it here, and spending a great deal of time here, I may get a CI every now and then.

I have gotten really really carried away before on avatar sites and spending money on pixels and it is very addicting so I have to keep myself under control. I come from Gaia where they push that shit constantly on people and they take advantage of people with tendencies to get addicted to sites, they push gambling, and other stuff thats not appropriate for under age or any age really. But Gaia is many things negative that Menewsha is not and I appreciate that here the principles are different and more honorable.

If I made a free website for people to hang out on, I would not make it so expensive to run that I had to goad users into buying stuff, preying on their tendencies (the way Gaia does). Here it seems more like a fair deal where its just monthly items and you are helping the site you like and you can use the gold you get from selling it or the item itsself.

So I figure - if you get as much entertianment from 2.50 out of buying pixels as you would from buying a couple of candy bars, a game of laser tag, or some other thing that costs about the same and is entertaining, well then if you WANT to, you should go for it. But, if you're not on the site much and you dont' have lots of money to burn or would rather save it, then it wont' be as worth it for you, and if you would rather not then don't spend it.

So there will be users who won't spend money on this site, but, they will generate discussion and entertainment for the paying users, and without all our users, we wouldn't have the same entertainment value on the site. So, we're all important.

All this said.. good job to whomever came up with Yumeh the cat. I want to know more about him!
