I mean i don't think the hot sauce is that bad, i use to get chilli and soap in my mouth for swearing. But the cold shower is going over board, she's traumatizing the poor boy. Especially since he's adopted i bet he's already been through enough.

I'd never put hot sauce in my child's mouth for any reason.
It makes me want to cry when I see how horrible parents can be. That kid is probably a sweet heart but your methods of punishing him will destroy that in him.

Well to be honest the hot sauce isn't that bad, i use to get chilli powder and soap when i was a kid. And guess what? I didn't ever swear again did i lol. But yeah i mean isn't she punishing him enough by giving him the hot sauce, that she has to throw him in a cold shower too? That's not just a little kid acting up, that's a little kid, literally traumatized coz the person that he looks up to, who is suppose to protect him, is abusing him. The way she's yelling at him too, is like he's an adult.

Even chili powder and soap sounds awful. But that woman is going way overboard. It's sad.

It is awful, but it's not that damaging, i'm sure i'm normal? xD
I don't like the anti smacking law at all. It's bullshit because, those that are abusing their children, still get away with it. Though those who give their kids a smack on the butt or the hand are getting fines and jail time. It's ridiculous. Because it's not really helping the ones that need it. There's nothing wrong with a bit of physical punishment, so long as your not beating your child black and blue or traumatizing them. I turned out fine, and i use to get the wooden spoon and all sorts lol. But i was never bruised or beaten within a inch of life ya know?

My mom used to bruise and beat me. I think getting a little physical isn't horrible at all. Just don't get carried away. That method...the hot sauce and cold shower and things like that...that's more abusing mentally and stuff. If hitting is illegal, so should those methods.

That's really sad to hear :(. I use to get physically abused bad by my mothers partner when i was younger, i was taken into care of child services when i was 5, for 2 years because of it. Luckily i got to stay with my uncle. Took her awhile but she finally got out of that relationship. I don't think i have any long term damage. But who knows maybe there are things about me that aren't right and i just don't know it? LOL

I can't watch the video because the school firewall blocks the site but that sounds horrible. It's one thing to spank a child if they've really crossed the line, or to give their hand a bit of a smack to keep them from putting it where it doesn't belong (generally to keep them from getting hurt). I believe parents should be allowed to do things like that as long as they don't do real physical damage to the child and as long as it is a controlled sort of punishment. A parent should never, EVER spank their child while they are angry with them.

But...the very idea of subjecting a child or anyone else to physical, emotional, and mental abuse like you all are talking about is absolutely abhorrent. It isn't teaching the child anything but fear of his caregiver and it is likely to destroy any bond he might have formed with her. No child deserves to be treated that way. I also happen to think chili powder and soap is a bit extreme when a swift swat on the bottom has similar effects without the trauma. It would at the very least be a last resort for me to wash a child's mouth out with soap. I wouldn't do chili powder or hot sauce at all.

My uncle once put hot sauce on my cousin's fingernails to keep him from biting them. It was working....until my cousin had to pee. O_O The experiment stopped there. lol. I don't think my uncle had considered that er...side effect when he came up with the idea. They switched to the commercially bought products for nail biting after that.

Oh my gosh, Boo, that's really horrible. I wouldn't have thought of that either. I agree that it seems like a good idea to put hot sauce on the fingers but I wouldn't have thought about him having to pee. Ouch!

I have to walk away from my child sometimes because we get no where. I get frustrated and I just can't calm her down. Just this morning I had to practically force a pair of pants on her because she was so hysterical (it's her laundry day so there was only so much she could choose from) and we were running late and just ugghh. So I had to get her dressed and just ignore her crying because there was absolutely nothing I could do to help her. She didn't get spankings though. I understand being tired and grouchy in the morning's 'cause I am but it didn't make it any less frustrating.

What bugs me in that video is that she's so mad. I understand losing your temper when a child is screaming and throwing a fit but this kid did something wrong hours ago. She should be able to keep her cool and just talk to her. Take away a TV privileges or something for that.
