The rule is in place because you can't earn gold for something you didn't write yourself. Posting an avatar is one thing. Posting an entire entry form without quoting it is something else entirely. :yes: You guys have all been around long enough to know the rules, and I KNOW you all know about the quoting rules and why they're in place. :yes: Just use some common sense when you go posting other people's text -- most of the time, it's going to need to be in quotes, no matter what.

I got an infraction for forgetting to quote something when I first started as well, and after that I usually am all :ninja: about it.
However, as Roachi is along for a pretty long time, I'm pretty sure she also knows that rule in particular and it just slipped her mind.

But nevertheless, I just wanted to explain why that rule is the way it is, for those of you in this thread who don't know. :yes: There's just a lot of hate going on in here, and I really think it's silly to get so worked up over an expiring infraction...

Sorry, but rules are rules, and the moderators are here to enforce them. I don't particularly like giving out infractions, and I tend to give warnings to most new users I come across. But older users should really know better. Once you've been here a certain period of time, it's expected that the rules have sunk in. :yes: And if you've been warned for something once already, you're certainly not going to get a PM warning the second time around -- you're going to get an infraction. That's just the way it goes. We give you all a lot of chances to mess up and make mistakes before anything serious happens to you.

I'm sad that Roachi's choosing to close down this thread because of this, as I think this contest is a great addition to Avatar Chat. I do hope she decides against closing this down (or coming back to it at a later date), because I like this contest and would be happy to see it continue. I just think it's silly that everyone is getting so worked up over something small and not really that important in the grand scheme of things. :sweat:

Roachi, I understand you feel betrayed by the person who reported you, but ranting about it in a thread is not really going to help anything... :sweat:

Lol, I'm not mad at the staff, I simply thought the person who reported it could have handled it better. I tend to shoot the person a PM with a "did you realize that its against the rules....." sort of thing.

Did you ever consider that the person who reported the thread actually is a staff member?

It's very enlightening to find out that I'm a nasty, spiteful, ass-kisser, asshole, coward with no balls that wants to force Roachi to give all her items away because I have some personal hatred against her, and I deserve a punch in the eye. Or also, as I'm known over in the exchange, that I'm a spiteful, asshole, weasel, who hates Roachi because I'm so jealous, and I should be punched in the face. I was not aware I was such a terrible person.

The only reason I visited this thread last night because I thought the contest seemed cool and I really wanted to enter sometime. :) However, when I read over the front page, I noticed there weren't any quotes around the long poems and descriptions people submitted with their entries.

I was exhausted after a long and eventful day, so I reported it because I knew someone else could handle it better than I could at the time. Had I not, the result still would have been the same, only there wouldn't have been a report and the infraction would have come directly from me. Not because I'm a spiteful person, but because I noticed that she broke a rule.

It's not personal, so I'm sad that this was taken as a personal attack.

I'm hoping that everyone can calm down and recognize that the report system isn't a tool for personal vendettas, we evaluate reports carefully. Likewise, staff members read the forums too because it's our job to uphold the rules using the warning system that's in place. :)

But just try to recognize that even if I wasn't the one who reported the thread, it probably wasn't for any personal reason. :) The report system is there so people can help us deal with issues, big and small, since we can't be everywhere at once. I'd feel bad if people stopped reporting issues because they were afraid that by doing so, everyone would hate them.

Just because someone missed the issue the first time, doesn't mean a rule hasn't been broken. :( I can understand that you're upset, but I don't think it's worth abandoning the site because of a temporary infraction. The infraction you received will expire, so you're really in no danger of any serious repercussions (i.e. banning) and pretty soon the points you have will be back down to zero.

It's simply a matter of protocol that users who have received warnings before will receive a temporary infraction. At that point there's no debate on whether or not we send a friendly nudge/reminder, because you have been warned before. It's not personal and we don't try to upset anyone. Everyone is subject to the same rules.

Yes they do expire but guess what they're still sitting there reminding you of what you did. It's still a mark on your record.

There's really no point in arguing, and it's quite clear i shouldn't be doing anything for the community again. So i won't be anymore.

Again, it's nothing personal nor is it meant to slap you in the face for contributing to the community. It's simply a matter of a broken rule leading to a temporary infraction. Our infraction system provides users many chances before they'll receive a permanent infraction, but in order for it to work we must issue official reminders/temporary infractions or else we would have no idea if people have been warned before.

We can't play favorites and simply ignore protocol just because a user has been around for a long time. I'd consider myself corrupt if I did. :( However, I'm sorry that I upset you Roachi. That was certainly not my intention.

I also want to say I'm sorry if I upset anyone by what I said.
I understand that no one should be treated differently and that rules were just being followed.

I will miss Roachi too if she leaves.

I see the mods point, but I very much agree a PM warning would have sufficed, NOT an infraction.
I also had an incident early on when I joined and received an infraction for forgetting to quote lyrics in an RP post I made - wasn't my intention for the gold, was simply wanting to use teh song because it fit and my character was a song writer~

In another instance, I got a WARNING - no infraction - because I wasn't aware I should have quoted profiles in an OOC thread where I was keeping track of those who entered and keeping the profiles all in one place so it was an easy transfer to the thread RP thread~
THIS, in my opinion, is what should have happened. A warning, NOT an infraction.

I am very sorry to see Roachi go, for I very much adore her as a person and a dear friend. I think this situation could have been handled better in regards to the infraction being done or not. I mean no disrespect to the moderators, for I very much respect them.
However, I do not, and will never, agree to the infraction given to Roachi. A simple warning would have sufficed in my opinion and a friendly reminder of that rule.

And, now that I've said my peace on the matter, I will speak no further on the matter as Roachi has requested.
