So my friend and I were talking about how some people display their own art work around their houses. I am one of those people. I create paintings/drawings/etc for my rooms. Do you guys think it's a form of vanity to display a lot of your own work? Also does anyone else display a their own art through their house?

I post my artwork up in my room, though not around the house. But I believe that it's more meaningful to hang your artwork around the house, then going around, buying different paintings and pictures. It gives your house a more original and comforting feeling :3

When I move out, I'm going to create paintings 'n such to decorate my rooms. I'm an anime artist, and also freelance photographer, so my rooms would be plastered with all sorts of things XD

My mom is also a freelance photographer, and puts up pictures to decorate her rooms :3

I also hang my art up in my room, but not around the house. I use them more as space-fillers, though. ^^;

I would but then knowing how I am I would take it down just to edit it over and over again. I have this thing when it comes to drawing when it's like once I first finish a drawing, I think it's the most perfect thing I've ever done. Then the next morning when i look at it, it doesn't look as good as i thought it did the day before. So I keep editing. It gets annoying after a while. -.-;

I think it's neat.
You get to see the work that people had done.
I mean, who wouldn't think that's cool?

I have a few of my old paintings through out my house... and I framed some of my dad's old photography (he used to be a professional photographer back in the day. Most of his stuff is sports related but I have a few of his landscapes and portraits of my mother up) and I think I have at least one painting my sister did as well. Nothing very recent.

Nope xD its a waste of space to post my art up b/c art goes to ways for me. I either admire it more as time passes or i hate it when i finally realize the flaws ;o anyone with me xD? Every art you do looks nice for the first few days or months but over time you look back and go what was i thinking :x? I guess it also depends your skill at art :o

I do, I mean, who else knows what I like? =D

I display more of my friends' artwork though, as my own doesn't feel as 'special'. But most of my friends' artwork were gifts, so, I suppose that makes sense.

Nope, I dont display any artowork around my room really. Only things hanging in my room are posters, 4 glass etchings my sister did probably 12-13years ago, a woodburning I did about 8-9years ago, and my callender. Thats all that there is hanging in my room. As for the rest of the house, its pictures that my parents picked up on their vacations(some from Bermuda, some from New Orleans, and wherever else they went).

I am in no way, shape or form artistic so I don't bother to display any of my failed creations. My girlfriend is a keen artist though so she sometimes creates masterpieces for our house, she normally just paints straight onto the wall for a sort of vocal point thing though, I mean behind our bed she has a huge red rose painted and in the kitchen she has fruit and veg. She actually bought special paint for the bathroom so she could paint onto the tiles.

My mom is a painter, so her paintings are in every room. I grew up with art in the house and no art in a house seems wrong to me. I can't paint so I guess I'll be buing paintings or getting them from her. But she has a few that her mom, my greandma, did as she loves to paint too. And one or two she baught. But I have a huge painting in my room that hangs over my bed. As long as I van remember it's been in my room. It's of a meadow with a hill in the back ground. A tree with a swing and a path by it and a fountain. At the fountian are flowers and a red lion with a pegusus flying overhead. It's a nice sunny day. Mom somtimes paints a painting for a specific room in the house.

I don't have a single piece of art displayed in my house, I am pretty private with my art in RL. Not that I have a whole bunch of RL work, most of it is photoshop since I can't draw.

I don't usually put art around the house...I think it would look a little out of place, and i'm also very private about anything i draw. I consider the fact that i've got two pictures on my wall in my doorm room to be very bold XD.
Generally though, if you can, you may as well. I love seeing things people have done themseleves.

I don't think it's vain to display your own art in your own home. I mean, what else would you do with it if you're not selling it or displaying it publicly? O.o

I have most of my drawings hanging on the wall above my futon in my room.
There's also a latch hook rug of Mugen from Samurai Champloo hanging there, too.
I have lots of pictures I've drawn, and I do want to hang some more up.
They're all drawings of OC's of mine, but I want to scan them before I hang them up.
It's for a quest thread I'm working on for Solia.

I don't think it's a form a vanity... well, not a bad form of vanity, anyway. It's the good kind of pride.

It's the same as putting up pictures of your kids or putting your diplomas on the wall; you should be proud of the things you've avheived.

And what better things to decorate your home with, than something that makes you feel good about yourself when you look at it?

I think it would be cool to display your own art in your house. If it's good enough, go for it.

I can't say I'd ever display something i've drawn, but I like to hang up my paintings because they are very bold and colorful and they are portraits of people I really like or find interesting. I usually don't hang charcol drawings or anything like that though cause I hate to put tape or tacks on them... I figure some day I might want to sell it and tack holes and tape would ruin those and frames are so expensive! That's why my pre-mounted canvas paintings are the only things I hang up... though I always get worried about dust collecting on them and ruining the colors. >.< I do have one wall completly covered in portraits I painted of rockstars like "hide" and "Kyo" of Dir en Grey (if anyone knows them) It's my favorite wall... though I know I should sell or have to sell them at some point... ;_; it is heart breaking.

I have one painting I did myself and a couple of charcoal pieces I did hanging in my room, but not around the house. But I do have a pottery bowl that I painted with a light floral pattern in the living room, but it matches the colors in there better than my room and it's functional, otherwise, it wouldn't have left my room, lol. But I don't think it's vain to display your own artwork.

I used to a lot but now I have more posters to cover my walls, so I feel less inclined to. xD I do hand crafts I've made, though, like cosplay props and stuff from my wall. :3 So I suppose that counts at personal art I display.

I think that it's a form of vanity--but I also don't believe that vanity is always bad. :O So there you go. It's a form of pride as well, and people will say that it's bad--but confidence is good, and acknowledging that your work is good when it is, rather than saying that it's worse than it is, is much less annoying than fishing for compliments. :) That said--if you did a good job on it, who better to see it every day and appreciate it? When I feel that my art is good enough to display--and it's very nearly there--then I will hang it with the art that I have received and purchased in my room and be proud. Until then, it stays hidden in portfolios and my hard drive.

@Deletris: That's exactly why I haven't actually put up my art yet! XD Even though I was proud of some of it in the past, it bothered me so much when I looked at it a few months later.

I don't think it's vain or anything, I personally don't do it, but that's because I've never made something I really like or really want to put up.
When I was a kid I would put EVERYTHING I drew onto the refridgerator with a magnet, and I would stack one on top of the other of what I liked best[[And then take them down if it was too much for the magnet to hold]] because I was proud of it.
I think it's nice to post stuff up, cause if you're proud of it why not show it? And you can let yourself see it everyday and go "I made that! C:"

And it's nice to have stuff up on the walls.

I don't think my art is good enough yet (and most of it on the computer anyway). I do various styles of art and I'd love to display them, but I'd want them to be displayed properly and not just hung up haphazardly.
