At one point or another we're all going to have jobs, be it a full-time,part-time, or any other definition of a job in between. For a good majority of us we're probably going to stick around with that job for a few years until we're presented with a better opportunity and take some good work experience with us as we go. The sun rises, the sun sets. You know the deal.
For some of us, however, either the boss is so uptight that you can't move away from the register to pick up a pack of gum that's fallen on the floor without getting yelled at and written up or you happen to accidentally do something wrong and next thing you know you're out of a job. Then there's a smaller majority of people so very unhappy with their job that they might go out of their way and try to get fired! I see this as about 5% of the work force population, but who knows?
-Have you ever been fired from a job? Was it your fault?
-What's the worst manager you've ever worked for?
-For those that have been fired repeatedly, what was the most ridiculous reason they let you go?

Well I've never been fired...
But I've had a couple babysitting gigs with fairly unreasonable 'managers', considering most of the time the kids have more management power than the parents. Some of them are actually fairly cool, though.
A cool child is like a rare gem. Most of them are worthless stupid rock...but once in a while you meet one that really resonates with you. You know?
TABS, YOU KNOW, DON'T YOU? D;

Ahaha! The babysitting thing is harder than any job out there. In fact, any job where children area main focus I'll tell you already the people are not paid enough for the work they do. I mostly babysit those related by blood, but I know exactly what you mean. It's a good thing you've found reasonable 'managers.'

I've been fired once... It was deemed a wrongful termination and so I can (and am) collecting unemployment, luckily.
Essentially I went in to get my paycheck and everything was fine. People were acting normal and chatty and then I stopped to get my schedule. It was blank. I had to go and ask my boss why and I was never given a solid reason, proof of the accusations made against me (about making too many mistakes) or any real information on why other than that one of the owners didn't like me. What it actually looked like was that they were trying to clear spot on the schedule to hire on someone from a restaurant under the same ownership duo, even though I wasn't working at a restaurant. One of the servers (who the owners and my boss adored) was a business major and needed business experience... so they offered her a job that wasn't available at the hotel. She started and I was fired. =/
I've had my fair share of bad managers. I think the worst, however, was an elderly lady who was hired into a restaurant I worked in the kitchen of as a manager. She had no experience we were made aware of and she didn't make an effort to learn how things were done before she started yelling at us that it wasn't right. The entire kitchen staff butted heads with her constantly and the other managers had to keep acting as a mediator between us. It was wildly uncomfortable working conditions.

I had to read this because I just quit my job last month. It used to be a great job, until the owner's husband took over the company. And HE was the worst manager I've ever had. He was a total idiot, not to mention conducting sexual harassment on a few of the women there, NO LIE. He also turned my "data entry" job into assembly line type of work in a warehouse full of mold and dust. It became worse than working in fast food. I wish I would've went out in a bang, because in my state, they don't even have to pay you your vacation time if you quit, so there went my 70 hours, GONE. But, the company I was with did something bad and they are going to regret it soon. The online company they were selling items on *cough, a very well known company,* has a feedback section to rate the businesses. Well, my job was paying me and other employees to leave good feedback for the company, which of course is against their policy. So many of us have notified them, and hopefully something is done.
My work felt SO identical to Office Space, it's not even funny. I was a good worker, and then decided that ruining my life at a dead end job was not worth it anymore. I advise anyone who feels like their company is taking advantage of them, to do something about it. I have never been fired, most of the time I've been laid off but that's it.
I realize no one will probably read this because I wrote A LOT LOL. Ah it does feel good to write though.

I have actually never been fired.
My first job was a seasonal position as JCPenney, but I was let go after the holiday season ended. I am still on good terms with most of the employees there. As for my second job, I was let go. They screwed me over by basically claiming I never completed my training. Of course, they told me this three or four days after I finished training and I was working by myself. I finished training, but they didn't say anything after that. I was getting vague answers. I was not even being put on the schedule. My theory is that they replaced me. After I was let go, suddenly there were two or three new people at the grocery store's Starbucks.
My boyfriend quit a job recently after he was verbally attacked for things that were far from being his thought. He quit because he felt the manager was trying to fire him. =| The store is apparently managed very poorly.

I've been fired twice.
The first time was when I was sixteen, I worked at a call centre and had to sell 3 year contracts for electricity over the phone.
It didn't go very well, I only sold 2 or 3 every 4 hours so they fired me after 2 months. My salary there was 10 euros an hour, which is a LOT seeing as the average for that age is 2,80 euros.
The second time was when I started working at a grocery shop, but it was so boring! I guess this makes me part of the 5% because I seriously wanted to get fired. I showed up late every time I had to go to work, I was careless and didn't pay a lot of attention to my work. They fired me after two weeks. =3
That's also the only place where the manager was awful. They paid me 3,30 euros an hour so it wasn't worth the trouble anyway.

Ooh boy. I have had two real jobs, both of which I have horror stories about.
I used to work at a grocery store. This was quite possibly the worst job in town, and my boss helped nothing as far as that was concerned. At the time I had about four hours to work every day (I had school, among many other things which were a bit of a blur...I know doctors were in there...), and yet every single time I would go and tell them this, it held for about a week before they bumped me up to half an hour per week off full-time.
I was told to do things well beyond my physical capacity and then I was complained about for being unable to fully do them. None of these things were in the job description.
I was hardly allowed to be sick - and I get sick quite often. I would get complained at for coughing if I'd used up all my sick days (when others would be praised for coming in sick, I might add!). They scheduled me until after closing one night, then before opening the next morning. Ignoring that I had already said that I could not work mornings. They tried to ruin many of my schedules, including my birthday, many holidays, and the one time in my adult life that I've seen a particular old friend of mine.
In the end, I quit that job. I halfway wanted to be fired, but I knew it wouldn't look good on my resume.
Some time later, I got a job at the local library, where I currently work. My supervisor is an old friend of my mother's. I do not get along well with my mother, but I get along well with most of her friends.
This one is an exception. She is a Mexican woman, legal immigrant (dual citizen), but hardly knows enough English to squeak by (I fail to understand how she passed the language portion of the citizenship test). I don't understand her much of the time when she speaks - which is quite sad on her behalf; I am a JRock fan, and I fully understand the gratuitous Engrish in many of those songs, including those with very unclear vocals.
She rarely explains what she wants me to do, even if she's telling me to do something I've never done before. She gets angry with me if I ask her to elaborate, and she gets angry with me if I do something even the slightest bit off from her expectations. Apparently I'm supposed to read her mind, though to be honest I doubt she has one.
She never actually DOES anything. She spends her entire day on the phone or mysteriously gone, and I often catch her shopping for clothes for her grandson. And it gets worse...
About six months into the job, I discovered that I am, for work purposes, disabled (though there's no formal diagnosis [no positive EEG], my doctors and every educated being around agree it safe to assume that I have epilepsy). As with most people with this condition, I discovered it the hard way.
Many things around the library flash. None of them are necessary. My supervisor, however, is an uneducated twit who refuses to listen to my doctors when it comes to anything general, read the documentation I give her on my condition, or generally do anything about ANYTHING unless a specific item is targeted.
More recently, because so many doctor's orders have come in (which she has so conveniently misinterpreted), she decided it's time that I fill out official ADA paperwork.
This is very difficult with no formal diagnosis.
This is even more difficult when I am left alone behind the circulation desk to attempt this with no formal diagnosis.
This is even more difficult still when the above conditions are true and she attempts to disallow me from taking the paperwork home to seek help from my doctors.
And this grows STILL more difficult when she hovers over me, asking me if I've finished every few seconds, leaves, comes back a few minutes later and asks if I've finished again, and repeats in a never-ending loop. Which is extremely frustrating when this is the most she speaks to me.
In a few months, I'm leaving this job. I'm giving them my official departure date as soon as the date of my move is set. But not before I report this woman for abuse of power, misuse of work hours, and running off countless people who came before me. I should have known there was a reason they warned me about her.
Amazingly, despite my terrible relationships with my employers, I have not actually been fired.

Wow, now that's some serious business..
You know, that's exactly why I hated working at the grocery store! The manager controls everything you do and watches you all of the time. After I left there, I started working in the sales business.
That means me and the team I worked with went out to town and convinced people to become a monthly donator for a good purpose, ours was the Dutch Heart Foundation.
We got paid about three times as much as we'd get by working at a grocery shop, we didn't have our boss checking up on us, we could take a break whenever we wanted to, and we had so much fun! Our boss was like 21 so he was pretty much one of us.
We also had the freedom to control our own schedules and decide on which days we wanted to work, but during the winter it becomes a burden because you have to walk around in the freezing cold for hours..

i...i dont really know if i was fired or if i quit. you see i was working for target and the manager really scared me too. So i was happy to leave.
Reaon being:
well when they hired me it was seasonal and during the interview they gave me a list of dates and i had to check off ones that i would be willing to work. so like thanksgiving, black friday, christmas, christmas eve etc. and i checked off all but christmas eve, and so as the month wore on and i saw the schedulei noticed they scheduled me on chrismtas eve which i specifically said that i wanted it off... because i have prior commitments.. i sing at church and my family hosts the christmas eve dinner... its a very big night
and well as time came down to it and christmas eve came closer and i oculdnt find anyone to take my shift. So i tried quitting, and then the scarey manager ETL lady talked me out of it and tried to get me to agree with coming in in the morning instead...well right after that rightbeofre i left i put in my notice for he 27th
and so there was a snow storm and it was christmas eve morning and im thjinking "THIS IS MY CHANCE, MY EXCUSE TO GET OUT OF THIS MESS" so i called them up and told them i might be late.. they said it was okay and toget here as fast as i could....well i never showed up.
And they called and called and called me. And i just iddn't answer and the next week came and they kept calling and ifnally it stopped. i was soo happy....
im not sure if they fired me or toke my notice... but i know it was real immature of me ..
but i have this tradition at my church that i sing a solo and hundreds of people come and i couldnt just pass it up.

I have never been fired from a job. I have never had a horrible manager. I have only quit one job because I hated it, the manager had nothing to do with that.
Now, about you people that quit before you can get fired, I know in the U.S. if you are fired, you can collect unemployment. Most employers do not bother with a paper trail for being a bad employee (not saying anyone here is a bad employee). If you suspect your employer is trying to force you into quitting, call the unemployment office, let them know what is going on and they will open a case and investigate. If your hours are drastically cut, you can file for unemployment. So there is a reason managers and bosses try to make you quit. They do not want you to collect unemployment.

I was fired from Sonic for decorating the assistant manager's car with whipped cream...But he hired me back a few minutes later since he didn't want to do everything by himself. I was the closer, and the only cook left that night. =D
Hmm...it would be hard trying to figure out who my worst manager was...
And that was the only time I've ever been fired from a job. I quit after that and have been at the same job for the last three years.

Well, this subject is pretty damn close to home right now...oh wait, it hits the nail on the head. I went in today to get my paycheque, only to be told that I have no passion for food that they can see, thus they need to let me go. But then again, what do they know? They had me washing dishes, so I couldnt handle any food to be able to show my passion for food...oops, their bad.

Oh my god... talk about jobs.
I right now am collecting unemployment cause I think I had the worse boss, I have ever had!
I had been working for this company for almost a year, I got bumped up to Asst Manager after 6 months. Which shows I must have been doing something right.
Then the head of the company decided that all stores must go franchise. Which is fine, so the new owner came in and decided who he was going to keep and who he wasn't. And started organizing the store the way he wanted. I also lost my Asst Manager position.
So after three weeks, it was pay day. And he decided that he didn't have the funds to pay his workers. So he wasn't paying us, period.
By this time he had already fired three people and there was only three of us left working a 24/7 store.
So I lost it, and threaten him. I told him I expected my pay when I got to that store or else I was going to report him. He coughed it up pretty quick, and I quit.
One of my first jobs, I had this really awful boss. I had to go into the store in the morning, and open it. And I couldn't get on of the sliding doors open, it was seriously stuck. And we were having problems with it for awhile, and she knew this.
So I called her, and told her. She came in with her father and got the door open with a little elbow grease. And turned around and told me. "You could have opened that yourself." And then I said "If I could have opened it I wouldn't have had to call you now would I?" Ya she didn't like that, I was served walking papers, I found out she was fired like 2 months later for stealing. Ah sweet Karma.

I was um kind of fired and quit once lol... why? because I had requested days off, which my manager granted permission to.... so after I came back from those days off to check my next work day we had a new manager... my old one was fired for drugs.... anyways the new manager thought I had quit because I didnt come into work for a few days (my requested days off) and he refused to believe (according to him "my bullsh** story about requesting days off") so i went through this whole mess talked to my supervisor got offered my job back with crap ultimatums so i just told them to F off that i can do better than this place...... yea
my worst manager was the incosiderate Bit** i worked for at a movie theatre... aside from being a total Bit** pretty much all the time the final straw was when I was in line for a supervisor position there... but then my life took an unexpected turn and my brother passed away =( well one of my supervisors granted me a month off after that month I tried to get back to work but my manager decided to give me only one work day and when I requested more she would just make snide remarks to me about it and told me she wasnt going to promote me because "you're unstable now you're pretty useless even as a cashier" I was so insulted by all her rude comments she hadnt even given me a chance... and finally took off that stupid vest threw it in her face and told her how much of a C*** she was
I wouldnt really say I actually have ever been fired... the first thing in this post is the closest thing to it xP

I actually left my hell hole of a job when I began school back in August. I never got fired before. I worked for Wal-Mart and it was just horrid! You’d think it was at least 90% the customers, right? Nope, it was about 60% of the idiotic managers!
Pretty much all of our managers just sucked royally. They tried making people take care of 3 or so departments and making sure they were perfect before they left every night. It was impossible! There would always be returns or a mess somewhere by the time you had to leave and if you stayed late you got written up because you didn’t get permission for overtime. If you didn’t stay, though, you’d get written up for not having all the departments perfect! What the duck? It’s a ‘damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t’ situation, but they never saw it that way.
Didn’t help that when people got fired or quit they would just push that person’s department onto another person and put off hiring someone for many months. (It took them almost a year to get me someone else in Ladies’ Wear to help, but that person quit and it took them 4 more months to hire another person, who also quit within the first month.)

Ironically, I just got canned today, and I don't even know why. They said it was due to "job performance" but I have done nothing aside from what they asked. I'm pretty sure I've been framed by my lazy team lead. Well, hopefully I can get unemployment..
I had never been fired before this either. Laid off, yes, but fired no.

the most ridiculous reason i have been fired was because i was working too hard and making the other employees look bad.
wtf, right?
another thing that happened, not to me but to my father, was he put in his two weeks notice. and was told, "you can't quit.. i'm firing you!" douche!
i was going to go and bitch slap my dad's boss.

Ok so I used to be a store manager for this really popular alternative clothing and music store chain. About a month before back to school rolled around we had our amazing district manager promoted away from us and got this new guy... who had no experience... and came from the gap. He had no clue about anything, including the store culture, but he wasted no time in telling all of us how lazy we were (at the time ours was one of the few districts actually doing positive business in our region), insinuating that two of my fellow store managers were 'party girls', and questioning the one male store manger's commitment to his job because he was a father. Yeah... but was this guy spoken to? No... so after dealing with a year of being under staffed, fighting to keep my position (I was an assistant acting as a store manager for something like three months), not being able to take more than two days off of work to deal with personal issues I had to deal with a house fire, and dealing with having a new dm every few months (except for this guy... they told us he was ours to keep), I just had it and called my Regional manager an quit. What was hilarious was that three hours later he came in and said that he had 'proof that I worked off the clock' and 'fired' me. Mind you I DID work off the clock but that is because they wouldn't give me another member of management so that I would have time to take care of paperwork/merchandising/things that the higher ups wanted done and didn't care how it got done.
