If you're talking about being in the hospital, I think that depends on the type of cat you're talking about and what kind of room you're in. There's the whole allergen factor you have to put into the equation. Some people are deathly allergic to certain breeds of cats, and cats that shed a lot are a big taboo in hospitals. If you're in a private room, you might be able to get away with low-shedding, recently groomed cats. However, if you're in a room that accomodates two or more people, you most likely wouldn't be allowed to have a cat brought in.
