You can earn gold by posting in forums (correct spelling is a plus :)) and playing games in the arcade.

The easiest way to earn gold is to post around the forums (RPs are supposed to be a great, easy way to do that, but I haven't tried it yet. There is, however, a forum set aside specifically for that- and you've probably already noticed it.)
If you like to draw or create pixel art, you could start a shop in the art boards.
Or for a quick, fun gold boost, try your hand at Attack of The Fangirls in the Arcade!
