We're forced to study him when we're younger, but we all grow to love him, huh?
I think it's because he had a wonderful mind. There are many others, but everyone knows his name.

We're forced to know his name but I have learned that not everyone cares and some grow to loath him.
I say that because I know a lot of people who don't take the time to fancy his work.

I have a few friends too, it's a little sad, huh?
We learn it because others agree that they are amazing works too though.

So true. There are some to self-centered to see outside of their ever day perspective.
It saddens me that everyone wants money every one wants time but no one is willing to see the finer things in life from those who were smarter then we can only dream to be.

Because he was a bloody good writer, and good writing is immortal. :)

It's funny, Shakespeare wrote plays as a job, that means he had to sit down and pump out these stories like a freaking machine, day in and day out. He now has so many that we have embodied him as the voice of the middle ages so I think that's why we have to learn it. Not to mention that man was just damned lucky he was good at it!

I find it interesting that some people don't believe anyone could have produced so many wonderful plays, one after another on their own. Some people theorize that many of Shakespeare's plays are stolen and actually written by another man-though the name escapes me at the moment.

I'm studying him in English, and I simply love his work :heart:
My favourite has got to be Twelfth Night =3 It's simply hilarious~

I LOVE Twelfth Night. Whenever they do a play on it near by, I have to go.
I mean, it's amazing.

A visionary of his time, whose works, though outdated, are still considered masterpieces by today's standards.

I've always enjoyed going to see when any of his plays are put on in my area. What I do find hilarious is when people refuse to read/watch his original works but love movies like "Ten Things I Hate About You", which are just modern interpretations of his work.

I didn't mind reading a few of the plays that he made. My favorite one was Macbeth *o*, that's really the only one that I payed close attention to.

Because he's classic.
There's a reason they're called classics.
Because it appeals to every generation because the themes are timeless.
Jesus, most of his works are compilations of a lot of other shit
but it's written so good no one cares, and it preserves that shit too
It's like Hesiod or Homer.
Good writing, good mythology, good folklore, who cares if it wasn't all by him. : P

Yeah, I've heard that theory before too... but it doesn't take into account how the themes through his plays and sonnets reflected the stage of life he was experiencing at the time.

The more light-hearted plays were mostly written when he was younger, then they gradually become darker as he grows older, and his sonnets start to deal with the issues of growing old and facing your own mortality.
And he really started writing his darkest tragedies right after his son died... which is understandable.

Although we don't know much about him as a person, what little we do know all just fits too well into the timeline of when his works were released, IMO.

Because his works stimulate the creative mind, because even to this day you can find a character that you can relate to. Because the morals are classic and the drama is realistic.

I don't think there is a set reason, he's just awesome!
