I saw it and said "I HAVE TO GET THIS FOR HER."

I don't like a lot of the jewelry industry standards, and Liz is a really unique person. Plus, she doesn't like diamonds or the traditional engagement ring setting, and we're both kind of broke. And as much as she loves me, she knows that most of her taste is guesswork on my part. She said once that she would rather someone propose with a ring pop than buy a $300 ring that she may not even like. So I think I might actually propose with a ring pop, and then give her this one as a promise ring... and once we're out of Indiana we can get an actual engagement ring.

And etsy because I would rather my ring be made by someone who cares about the craft.

I've been thinking about this since March, actually... Now is just the first time I've had the money to do something stupid with it.

i LOVE TORONTO! The place is gorgeous.

Aww :-) That is so sweet Hyena. I'm so happy for you that you guys have that kind of a relaxed and meaningful relationship. It sounds like you both really get each other and whats really important in life.

And I agree Cuppy, flavor is key!

She gets a blue raspberry ring pop. =]

("pretend its a sapphire")

I think the reason we're so relaxed is because we learned from the mistakes of our friends, honestly.

She prefers blue. She always gets a blue DumDum when we go to the bank. And then she says "blue is best." =]

Now I want one. xDD

I'll get one of those variety packs. And use the rest of them as hints or something.

Nah... that's silly. I'm taking her out to eat on our anniversary. My parents gave me a gift card to Red Lobster. I think it was their way of saying "we know you're gay. Now go take her out on a proper date."

Its cute, but I don't want to overdo cute. I mean... I'm already tongue-in-cheek cute with the ring pop. We need a balance of cute/romantic/serious. xD

Also, and this is being really hopeful here, I think she might also be fixing to propose. She told me that she had already bought my anniversary gift and that it will "make me cry/wibble." And since the only thing that I can think of other than a kitten that would make me wibble is taking the next step... I think we might have a mutual proposal about to happen. xD

This will be awesome when I chronicle our story in comic book format. xD

I like scary to a cute degree! =DD

When I went to Mid-Ohio-Con with my roommate (Liz couldn't go because she didn't have any money, and knew that she would just be a Debbie Downer if she mooched off of us for the whole weekend), she was relaying our story to her boyfriend who lives in another state and wasn't there for the whole series of events. When she was done, Noah (her boyfriend) looks at me, looks at her... then looks at me again. And then looks back at her.

"For real?"
"Yeah. Like that."
"Seriously?"
"Sounds like a shojo-ai manga, doesn't it?"

I AM SO DOING IT!

I'm on like... a super confidence ROLL lately. I could do pretty much anything right now. xD

You know... I never really got into Dramacon. I'm a little skeptical of American artists whose work looks an awful lot like a japanese style. I mean, I know its hipocritical of me to judge something solely on its artwork, but it was kind of a turnoff. That, and the plot didn't interest me much because... well... while I do love a character-driven story, it seemed... kinda uninteresting. =/

I know that people would probably say the same thing about my stuff, though, so I suppose I can't judge.

I said 'American' when I suppose I should have said 'Western.' According to her biographical information, her schooling was in Canada. I don't think its really a matter of whether her style has gotten better if I don't really care for the series premise. I like things to be a little more cerebral when it comes to slice-of-life. For example, the series YU+ME is autobiographical, but there is a strong emphasis on dreams and how they effect the main characters. So though the characters themselves are based on real people, what makes the story interesting is what goes on inside the character's heads.

It all comes down to personal taste. Some people enjoy slice-of-life stories, and some people don't. Having been in the business, I can say that you could be the best artist/writer the world has to offer, but if the person you're talking to doesn't appreciate penis jokes or stories about magic cannibals, there's not much you can really do to make them like it. Just because I prefer cerebral autobiographies doesn't mean that a light-hearted story about anime convention subculture doesn't have its merit.

Nah, I figure that if they're clumsy enough to accidentally click on my sig, then that's publicity enough. Otherwise, I only bring it up when its relevant to the topic; be it comic books, conventions, cannibals, gender queerness, pirates, zombies, cults, or writing in general.

Granted, those are topics that come up a lot when I'm talking, so I end up pimping it out a lot. But that's more because those are things that I am passionate about and thus have a fair amount of input for. xD
