I once had a positive attitude about my art and was told that I should take a more humble approach to showcasing my work. And I was like... seriously? Because I've been humble about my work since I grew feet and after 22 years of "oh, I don't think I'm good enough" only getting me disparaging looks from my superiors because THAT attitude will get you nowhere, I wanted to feel AWESOME about my stuff. And what does it get me? -eyeroll-

Yeah, well... people seem to think that an artist needs to be humble to avoid looking like a pompous ass. But... see... humility is for people who don't have the confidence to showcase their work. For someone like me, who went to school and is seeking to become established, humility will get you nowhere. You have to KNOW that your work is good, or you're not going to have the confidence to present it to galleries, anthologies, publishers, or even sales.

And after finally having the confidence to say that I am awesome, then trying to show it to people with my newfound attitude... I get "You're not THAT awesome and you shouldn't have that attitude if you're not the best." But see... what I'm saying is that I'm awesome, but not the best. Like... for instance... if someone has a project in mind and needs an artist and I'm not the right person for the job, I will GLADLY turn them over to someone who is more fitting for it. Its not like I'm the be all and end all of art. I never actually said ANY of that.

But people are so weird about art. o_o
