((I can change the beginning location if need be, and the first journal entry wanted to be long. Sorry about that.))

From the personal journal of Emma Sayers

Year 0, Day 1, Post-Storm

The sky fell, and nobody will ever laugh at Chicken Little again. We finally left the storeroom, desperate for water, when the thunder finally stopped, and found rubble. Our concrete room was the only thing left standing, and even that had been battered.

Mrs. O'Dell, the assistant manager, led us in a search through the wreckage for bottled water. Anyone caught so long in the Storm would not have survived. It took hours, but we found a cache of Aquifina, and in the process recovered dented cans of meat and vegetables, and even some peanuts. It took hours longer to divide them fairly.

Mr. Ellis, a science teacher at MSH, is also a survivalist. He was the one who kept everyone together, at least to start with. He didn't know whether this was a local event, but assumed the worst, especially when he saw the crater in the parking lot. An iron stone, immense yet dwarfed by the hole, rested in its center. By about midday, the sky was gray with dust, and Mr. Ellis suggested that we not trust magnetic compasses where the land might have iron in it. One fall would not have been enough to cause the strange clouds.

He also mentioned the possibility of a new ice age. I will have to try to find a warm coat.

Mr. Harker tried to convince everyone that these were the End-Times. Maybe they are, but he has always been a doomsayer, and it was easier for everyone to ignore him and divide the cans of Spam and pack them away however they could. I was grateful for my backpack, though I had to leave half my books behind.

The Shaw's group split in the afternoon. Mr. Ellis, Mrs. O'Dell and I had family in Montepelier. The others... I don't know where they went. They were rural, so I probably never will know. Back to live off what's left of the land, I guess.

I think the sun has set. It’s hard to tell. But it is dark. I need to find a place to sleep.

--

Emma sank against the remains of a wall, her heart beating frantically. Were they gone? Whoever was out there? She hoped they were gone. Raiders were everywhere and unpredictable, and they wanted whatever they could get their hands on. It had generally been safer in the wilderness, but once in a while one had to venture into the ruined towns to find things like matches or new clothes. If she’d known how to tan hides or make fire by striking stones together, she’d have been better off, but Emma hadn’t figured those things out yet.

Deep breaths, Emma, she thought to herself, and listened hard for footsteps on the ruined sidewalk. Or was it concrete? She couldn't tell. Was this Wall? She was pretty sure it was South Dakota, anyway. She'd seen the signs. There was nothing to hear, though, wherever it was. Maybe they really had left.

She pulled out her small radio, and turned it on, its volume just loud enough to hear if she put it up close to her ear. Thank God her hearing had recovered. It had taken months. They weren’t broadcasting at the moment, but even the static was comforting, somehow. Then her stomach growled. It would have to wait. Rationing was like that.

Adam was walking down the railroad track cleaning his knife using small amounts of water to clean off any dust that was there and all the blood on it. It had noutchs in the blade of the knife and he was cleaning it more exssefuly then anything else, after all it was a very old knife that he stole form the museum, and he needed to keep it clean. Adam sat down on the rail and looked into his worn-out backpack with all. He saw the meat cleaver and the dead raccoon in his bag that he killed and took it out and cutting it up with his meat cleaver, making small peaces of raccoon meat as he picked it up and ate it with vigor as he took a swig of water as he ate. Adam was tired, dirty, and at that time alone with his knife and memory's

Rachel was exhausted.

She'd been traveling for several days in piles of rubble and hot, dry desert terrain, and water was quickly running out. She pulled a bottle of water from her backpack, her last, and took a sip. She'd made off with a full bag, having found a mostly unscavenged convenience store, but a few days ago lost most of the food when some raiders nearly took her by surprise. She barely made it out with what little she had in the pack. Recalling the ugly face holding the Swiss army knife in her face, Rachel made a face and relished the thought of having knocked at least four of those yellowing teeth out from that smug smirk with a well-aimed punch.

After another half hour of walking, she decided it was time for a break. A half-collapsed house was nearby, and she quickly made her way over, scanning the area for possible raiders or slavers before entering, its only occupants the crushed body of its previous owner, buried under a pile of rubble. The first thing she did was start looking around for supplies, heading towards the kitchen and carefully avoiding any contact with the structure in case the house should collapse further more with her inside.

How long has it been anyway?

The thought was pretty random, but it struck Stephanie like one of the rocks of the Storm. It had to have been at least half a year... at least. Nim had gotten huge in a short amount of time, too; it turns out that she'd only been a pup when Stephanie had found her.

Stephanie sighed, and stopped beside a crumbled, destroyed wall that had an old advertisement for a new range of Coke. Nim, who had bounded ahead of her, trotted to a stop too. She sniffed the air a few times, like Stephanie had trained her to do, and galloped back to her mistress as the latter sat down, resting the rifle and her pack on her knees.

"What?" Stephanie grunted at Nim, who was now bounding about Stephanie's feet and yapping. "You hungry?"

Nim waggled her tail and started barking erratically. Stephanie rolled her eyes, and unzipped the pack. She fished around for a while, her fingers sliding past bullets, bottles of muddy water, cans of fish and squished vegetables, and finally pulled out a rather large (and a little off-looking) sausage. Nim just about bowled Stephanie over, her yellow eyes fixed on the meat.

"Down, you dumb dog!" Stephanie growled; Nim payed no attention whatsoever. The girl threw the meat high into the air, heaving in the breath the dog had been trapping as Nim raced after it. Stephanie muttered darkly as she pulled out a bottle of water and a small bowl, laying it out for Nim when she decided to stop stuffing her face on the sausage.

Sarah felt tears start to fall from her eyes again. It had been three days, and she knew those raiders could come back any time now. In the back of her mind, she heard her voice scream at her to move, get to the broken house nearby, find some water, drink. She had finished what little they had still brought with them to this shed. She choked back more tears as she looked over at her boyfriend in the corner. He was dead, had been for two days now. It had taken him a whole day of suffering to finally die, and it had killed her just as much to watch it. She couldn't bring herself to let him die alone, and now couldn't bring herself to leave him lying in some shed. There were tools, like a shovel, but she hadn't the strenght to dig, nor the skill, with her belly as it was. Her baby kicked a little, and she knew the weakness she felt was probably contributed to the child she carried taking what nutrients it could from her. She feared for it more then her, but there was not much she could do but try to survive, for its sake.

She felt her tears fall free at the thought of loosing it to, and her cries carried a little in the silent afternoon.

((Note, this is the character I'm having travel with Fading, Crazy, and Malice. She's in a shed near the house Fading is in currently, so you should be able to hear her cries. I'm still coming up with a character for Wolf and Cica's team.))

((Edit: I will have something for Cica, though. Is her radio turned to "Capital News" station? Cause they are always broadcasting something, and they've found ways to transmit to almost all the US, so at least she'd hear something.))

From the personal journal of Emma Sayers

Year 0, Day 3, Post-Storm

Montpelier is gone, and everyone with it. The three of us spent all of yesterday looking. Mr. Ellis said something about firebombing. I barely heard him. I need to rest. I wish I could sleep.

--

A dog's yap, sharp but not shrill, echoed through the rubble. So did a voice, more faintly. Both were distant enough, but still, Emma was startled into dropping the radio. Luckily, it landed softly between her knees, its dials turned just a bit. Its volume and tuning had both been changed, and she could hear voices again. How long had the tuning been wrong, she wondered? Not that the lonely static wasn't a rather comforting connection to Pre-Storm years, but the broadcasts had been her connection to humanity for... How long had it been? She didn't feel like checking the date.

Humanity was sorely lacking even among the living now. Emma counted herself lucky to have survived at all, much less with most of her journals intact, not to mention the first aid kit.

Speaking of which, if this was Wall, then maybe it would be worth a look at the famous drug store. It had been a tourist trap once. Now it could be the difference between life and death. If it still existed. And if it hadn't been picked clean. But exploration would mean confronting the stranger and the dog. She could never outrun a dog. Would her hunting knife be enough for a confrontation?

She stayed where she was. Maybe the strangers would go away...

((That should take care of the radio issue. Hopefully there isn't a geography issue. If Wall, South Dakota isn't an okay location for Stephanie to be in, I'll change this post when Wolf-Elf-Child gets back to me. :) ))

The voice was low on the radio, but it was the voice of Capital's female announcer, Mary. Her voice always made the world seem a little softer. "It's 1:15 here in the Capital, as our clock reads. We hope anyone listening is staying safe. Six new arrivals came in last night, and we'll read them off again, in case you are just tuning in. They are Maverick Barrios II, Joshua Lancaster, Calvin Kepter, Julia Lynch, Michelle Reeds, and Penelope Grace. All of them were walking, but Maverick is being treated for a gunshot wound. Local doctors have assured me he will be fine. If any of you are looking for these people, they are all safe in Capital." Her voice took on a somber tone. "We also have gotten word from that group of a lost woman named Valerie Carmine, who died on the way. Joshua brought her journal with him, so if you are related to or in some way close to this woman, know she was buried respectfully in a cemetery in Rhode Island. For safety reasons, we will not be reading the exact location. Tune in later for more news, or if you missed those names. And now, some music." The radio turned over to some music, no doubt taken from one of the CDs a survivor might have brought with him.

((It's fine with me, so.... yeah))

Isaac stood near his master also watching the sun rise. He allowed himself to take in this moment of peace and quiet. His life at the moment wasn't too bad and there was a beautiful sun rise. Granted no one wants to be a slave but as things go Isaac had gotten very lucky this time around.

He turned his glance to his master's back as his thoughts drifted. Mordecai, though a raider, wasn't paticularly harsh or cruel. When Mordecai first caught him Isaac had been filled with dread. His first time with raiders had been a living hell and he did not expect anything different this time. Though when he first arrived at the raiders camp Isaac decided to just stick with Mordecai partly because the man hadn't raped or beaten him. It had ended up being the best decision Isaac had ever made. Mordecai could be harsh but not overly so and he didn't ever force Isaac to have sex with him. Isaac also learned that belonging to Mordecai kept the other raiders away from him, apparently Mordecai could be quite lethal when he got displeased with someone. The first time Isaac had been with raiders he had been abused mentally, physically and sexually which was near unbearable. Mordecai kept those horrible things from happen to him again so he felt some loyalty to the man.

He was quickly brought out of his thoughts the moment Mordecai spoke to him. Isaac tried his best to be attentive and keep his master pleased, not out of fear but a sort of understanding. When Mordecai offered him the cigarette he was a little unsure how to respond. He had offered once before and Isaac had taken it trying to make his master happy but only embarrassed himself with a coughing fit. He thought it over and said softly, "No thank you Mordecai. I would rather save them for you since you enjoy them."

Mordecai smiled a little wider as he nodded, standing, and looked towards the sun again. "All right. Thanks." He stretched, then pulled the spear from his back and spun it once. He'd gotten pretty good at using it, considering he had never held a weapon in his life almost a year ago. "Alright, you know the drill. We get whatever we can carry, and anyone who has stuff we need comes with us." He looked back. So far, all the people they'd tried to bring back had been armed, and they had either escaped, or been killed. He didn't feel like bothering Isaac with the fact that the two being so dangerous was the only thing that kept the raider bossed off them. Still, it was only a matter of time before they got made at him for not bringing in many slaves, and even the supplies they brought back weren't in enough demand to keep them happy.

"Lets hope we get a few people alone today. These large groups are killing this work." He took one long, last pull in the cigarette, then dropped it, blew out a puff of smoke, and crushed it underfoot before walking down the hill. "Lets go, kid."

As he neared the bottom of the hill, the sound of a truck reached him, and he looked off into the distance. "More raiders, and not friends. Looks like things are going to be busy today."

((Edit: Oh, and your posts look good, neko :D I don't mind a few problems, cause no one's perfect.))

From a ways down the tracks, Adam could also hear the trucks, which meant Raiders, and lots of them.

Pickles, jam, marmalade, peanut butter...Rachel tossed one jar after another out from the food closet, looking for any signs of bottled water. Water was more important. Food can be acquired much more easily. After several more minutes of jar-tossing, Rachel gave up on the closet and went over to the refrigerator instead, which was lying on its side with what used to be a cupboard lying on top. Just as she was prying the door open with a plank of wood and her foot, she paused, head tilted to the side. Was that...crying she heard?

Not that she had anything against the more emotional, but she couldn't help but wonder what could've had someone crying at a time like this. Those people had been mostly weeded out by the raiders and slavers over time, and the sound of helpless crying was rare nowadays. Rachel wouldn't put it past it as some new tactic of those raiders, though. It could possibly be a trap. However, after a few more moments, her curiosity got the better of her and she cautiously peeked her head out, looking for the source of the sounds. It was soon located- a dusty little shack nearby.

Making sure her knives and gun were easily within reach, Rachel stepped out, glancing around, before darting over under the shadow of the hut, squatting down near a broken window out of sight. She pulled out a small mirror from a pocket of her jeans and cautiously lifted it, using its reflection to scour the interior.

Inside was a girl, about Rachel's. Her short brown hair was matted and dirty, and she was very pregnant. In the corner was a man. He looked great, for a survivor, except for the dried blood on his dirty white shirt, and the hole in his chest from a revolver at point-blank range.

The girl's green eyes shined behind her tears, as she looked at the dead man. A shovel was feebly clutched in her left hand, as though forgotten.

Sarah tried to control her sobs. She knew any raider in the area would hear her, and they had taken his gun when they killed him, so she only had the shovel, and her fists. She hung her head, biting her lip to stifle the noise, but continued to cry, unaware of the person behind her.

Isaac watched Mordecai spin the spear with ease. It seemed to Isaac that Mordecai was a natural with weapons, one of his older brothers had been much the same way. Isaac was decent with a rifle but he had never had the heart to hurt anything. He just wasn't a fighter and had never had much talent in that area. He was good at spotting things. He was often torn on what to do when they went out 'hunting' for slaves. There had been times when he had spotted someone his master had not and he had remained quiet. He did not like the idea of himself helping enslave other people. He would always alert his master though if someone he spotted seemed like a raider. There had been once when he had been wrong and he had nightmares afterwards of what might happen to the man he helped enslave.

Things were changing though even if his master never talked it. Isaac was a good observer and he knew things in the camp were on edge. Slaves and supplies weren't what they had been. Part of him worried what this would mean for him. Yes Mordecai was his master but that didn't mean the raid bosses wouldn't sell him if things got rough. If it came to that would Mordecai try to help him or not? After all Mordecai had to worry about his own skin first and foremost not some slave. Isaac sometimes wondered if it would be better for him if he did speak up when he saw people his master did not but at the end of every day Isaac knew he could not live with himself if he willingly enslaved others. He did fear that someday he would be sold to a worse group of raiders but there was little he could do about it. The way the world was now could he even expect to live very long?

Not letting his thoughts wander too far he replied quickly but softly to his master, "Yes, I've brought an extra bag just in case." Isaac always brought an extra bag in the hopes that they might come across extra supplies. He could carry quite a bit and it was always good to have more. He did not figure Mordecai really wanted or was waiting for a reply to his other comments so Isaac simply followed him down the hill.

Isaac froze the moment they both heard the trucks. He told himself to be calm but raiding trucks always brought a little fear. Speaking in a quiet tone he asked, "Will we be able to avoid them master?" Normally when they were alone Isaac called Mordecai by his name not his title of master. However, Isaac knew that other raiders and even slaves, who tattled, expected a slave to call his owner master so he had made it habit to so. It had been simply the notion of other raiders being nearby that had made him slide into the 'good' slave habit.

Rachel blinked and checked the room again with her mirror. The situation didn't appear to be...well, dangerous or seem trap-like. Dead man with a hole in his chest, normal. Woman with a very large stomach clutching a shovel...not normal. She hadn't thought it was possible to see someone pregnant anymore these days, as everyone was busy taking care of themselves, much less than having to look after another kid. Though judging from the size of her belly, it was possible that the 'process' had happened before crisis. Seems like either someone killed the guy in the room and the girl got away, or the girl killed the guy for whatever reasons and regretted it.

After a short session of self-debate, Rachel decided to enter the house. She didn't see any weapons lying around, except for the shovel, and she doubted the woman could've hurt her in her current state. The shack didn't have too many places to hide, so that put the idea of a possible ambush aside as well. As a precaution, she kept a hand on the gun on her waist before standing up, calling out softly, "Need some help over there?"

He looked over to were he herd the trucks coming "crap...." he said getting up and wobbling a bit still tried "got to get out of here" Adam said keeping his knife with him ready to cut them up if they tired to take him away. He looked around for a hiding spot and he just walked over to the bush's near the track and just fell there and scooted into the bush so that he shoe's were not out in the open. "if they EVEN try to touch me i am going to kill them" Adam said moving over to the tree that was behind the bush's and kept him well hidden

Sarah turned, angry at herself for having been so loud, but also terrified that she had been discovered. Her fear showed in her eyes as she clutched the shovel a little tighter. "Wh-who's there?" Was it the raiders? Some new group? A little hope touched her fears. A friendly traveler? She tried weakly to get to her feet, using the shovel to help hr stand. She was just now realizing what not eating for three days while being Pregnant was doing to her energy. If whoever this was was hostile, she was surely done for.

Mordecai didn't even notice Isaac's switch in title. He didn't care to much, since he only kept him around for the company. He disliked beating the boy, but had done so at least once only because he had been advised by the other raiders it kept them in line. He didn't care for it, was never in it for the pain. He had punished him when he'd screw up the few times he had, but nothing like what most of them did to their slaves. He had also never tried to punish him sexually, as some others did. While it was true he hadn't been laid in almost a year, he saw no appeal in this boy, and female slaves were very hard to come by. Keeping on to yourself was a serious no no, and he didn't feel like chipping into a "community pool" for pleasure.

He turned his attention back to the raiders. "No. Looks like three trucks. They'll be all over the important parts of the city in moments." He paused, frowning. "Why so many, though? They must have come for something specific." He looked back at Isaac. "We'll his the group on the tracks first. If we are quiet, we might be able to take them out one at a time, and maybe even steal their truck." He liked the idea of driving back to camp, instead of walking. "I bet their armor and weapons will go for a nice bit at camp as well. Lets get moving." He started to run towards the tracks.

((Rose, when you get on, you can put yourself somewhere in the city, maybe dodging these raiders, or just hiding, not aware the raiders are here, and we'll get to you once we have nekokid in our party.))

The trucks moved past, all three following the tracks, and two of them turned off to head into the city. The other truck stopped in the train yard, and seven raiders, wearing armor pieced together from whatever they had found, hoped out the back. A few wore Gas masks, and one wore an old Riot Police helmet, though the word POLICE had faded and scratched away over time.

Out of the front hopped a large, heavy raider who wore what looked like a car, repurposed into armor, and a tall, lanky man with wild eyes, who was probably in charge. "Move it out, you stupid bastards! I want this place cleaned out by nightfall!" He looked an another raider who was looking around. "You! Get moving! I want you to find that train pronto! Who knows, if you find it quick, we might be able to test out some of the good stuff on whatever locals might be kicking around." A few of the raiders laughed, enjoying the idea, and the guy he spoke to ran off quickly to get to work. He turned to the big guy, who nodded, and waddled off out of site. The rest spread out and started moving around the train cars, looking for whatever they could find.

He looked over the at the train yard and nodded starting to go into the city wanting to get out of the range of them knowing there going to be looking for them. Adam looked back seeing some of them with the gas masks with envy... maybe he could come behind one and stab them and take it. He shook his head and stared to run into the city making sure not to run into any of the party's of raiders wondering if there was any one here not trying to enslave or kill him

Journal entry one, Ezabella Winturs

I don't exactly know what's happened, all I know is I'm alone. Everyone in my dance class has poofed somewhere, and I can't find them. I don't know where to go, everything is a mess and broken up. The dance studio, that I'm sitting, is the only building that I could find that was at least in good shape. Everything else has huge holes in them, so sleeping in them wouldn't be the best idea.

I'm scared and I want my mama, I don't know if she is okay. I hope she is, I hope my daddy and baby brother are too. I don't know what I will do without them, it's been a couple days of me being alone. I miss my mama, I want my mommy!

Well it's been a year or so since I've been alone, I'm kind of amazed that I have made it for this long. I'm only ten years old. When I found this notebook, it has notes of dances that I know, so I think it was my teacher's but I'm not completely sure.

I'm hungry....

Ezabella stopping write and looked up around the room, the sun was starting to shine in the big windows. She squinted a little and put the notebook down, after she had closed it and put the pen in the spiral. She stood up and stretched a little, the wood floor wasn't that comfortable to sleep on, even with the material she had found to make padding.

She moved across the floor, her feet looking like she was gliding. She opened the closet, happy that they were storing food for a trip they were going to make. She grabbed a bag of a couple cookies, moving back to her sleeping area. She let out a heavy sigh as she sat back down and ate her cookies. "Those aren't going to last me much longer, especially since I don't know how much longer I'll be here." she said to herself.

She finished her cookies and stood back up again, throwing the bag away and walking to the water fountain. She was amazed that it still worked, but felt like it only worked because she was still alive. She still believe in magic and fairy tales, and right now she felt like magic had protected her and this dance studio. She got a drink before she turned on music. Letting the CDs that were in there just play, dances running through her head.

[-]Is that good?[-]

Isaac wished they had been here before so they wouldn't be on such unfamiliar territory but wishing did not change the situation. He pushed the fear away that was steadily creeping over him. If he let the fear over come him he would be useless or worse make a mistake that got both of them captured or killed. He centered himself and put his trust in his master. Though Isaac did not completely trust Mordecai he had heard tales of how dangerous his master could be. If the rumors were true they might just have a chance. If worse came to worse Isaac would have to do his best to defend himself.

He looked at his master curious of what the new raiders had come for. He had wanted to ask Mordecai a few questions but before he could get them out Mordecai was already speaking of a plan of attack and taking off at a run. Isaac swiftly followed and kept an eagle eye out for any hidden raiders.

"Over here." She knocked on the side of the cracked window sill, tucking the mirror back into her pocket with a hand. "You look dead on your feet." Rachel flipped over the sill into the room, glancing around it making sure it was safe. Seeing the fear in the woman's eyes, she softened her voice to make it seem less harsh, if possible, "And I'm not your enemy...at least right now I'm not, unless this turns out to be some new trick of those blood-thirsty bastards." She held her hands up to show that she meant no harm to the other woman.

Adam said looking threw a hole in the building then herd the music "HEY!" he said form the hole in the wall. Adam then started to clime in to the building and found the source of the muisk and shut it off. He turned around and looked over at the room the only thing he saw was Ezabella "Hey you got to keep this off when the raiders are here ok?" he said to Ezabella in a softer voice then he was planing to say

Natasha heard talking coming from a shed on the other side of the street after leaving a home she had raided. All she could hear was the fact it was two female voices. I should probably go check it out. . . . She thought, shifting her worn back pack on her shoulders before crossing the road, checking or any signs of movement around her. "Is anyone there?" She asked loudly, making sure the occupants could hear her, since she still wasn't sure it was just her going crazy.

(Eek, sorry for not writing for ages @[email protected])

Stephanie tugged the sausage away from Nim after she'd eaten half. The dog glared at her reproachfully, but didn't growl.

"Don't look at me like that," Stephanie frowned. "You know we've got rations; I don't think much meat would still be good these days. We've got to save your food as much as we can."

Nim just glared at her.

Sighing, Stephanie stuffed the contents of her pack she'd removed - the sausage, Nim's now empty bowl, the rest of the water in the bottle, the can opener and the empty can of baked beans - and picked up the gun. Nim wagged her tail, knowing that they were on the move again, and bounded forward a few yards.

But then, she stopped.

Frowning, Stephanie stopped too. She could see from here Nim's nose was quivering, her dark eyes were alert. Carefully, Stephanie pulled back on the top of the gun, wincing as it made the metallic ch-chk, and slowly walked to where Nim was still standing.

Abruptly, Stephanie flashed around the corner, holding the loaded gun ready, and surveyed the destroyed street. As she'd thought, there was a person there. The woman looked as if she were concentrating on something; had she heard Nim barking?

Natasha waited for a moment, them figured it had just been her imagination fooling her. How embarrassing. She thought with a small sigh. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a small flash of movement. Curious, she turned, casually resting her hand on the handle of her gun, just in case it was a raider. I do so hope my mind isn't just playing tricks on me again. She thought, taking slow steps towards where she saw the movement.
