"That sounds easy enough," Glory commented, thinking. It was definitely easy enough to get the fresh water, at least. She just had no idea how the necklace was put together, so she didn't know how to take it apart, though she figured one of the others might have a better idea.

"...Since contact with it seems to hurt full-blooded merpeople..." Lleu turned his gaze on Glory, pleadingly, "...perhaps it will not have an effect, or will have less of an effect, on someone who is changed..."

"I can try," Glory said. If they thought she could help, she was willing to give it a shot.

Morty, now knowing that contact with the 'necklace' was probably what brought on the rash, pain, and terrifying mood swings, stopped clawing at it. He sat up in bed, arms wrapped around himself, so she could reach it much more easily and had some breathing room to work with it.

Going over, Glory leaned in to get a better look at it. The locking mechanism seemed a bit complicated, but it looked like a few good jabs with a flathead screwdriver or something similar would mess it up enough to break it.

"I'm guessing nobody would know where to find me a flathead screwdriver, hm?" she asked, mostly rhetorical.

"I have human tools here, if that's what you're asking. I collect artifacts, remember? I'm not sure if I have the exact one you're looking for, but..." Lleu paused, and then fled out of the window. He returned a moment later with two different toolboxes, which he'd shoved full of human tools, as well as nails and paintbrushes and the like...

Glory blinked when he brought in the toolboxes, but sifted through them until she found a screwdriver in relatively good condition.

"Aha, this is what I needed," she murmured. Carefully, she used it to pry apart the locking mechanism of the necklace until the mechcanism broke. "See if it'll come off," she said.

Morty reached his hands up, but then faltered and lowered them again. "...I really don't want to touch it," he replied, somewhat timidly. The worst of the rash, now that he was fully visible, was around his neck where the 'necklace' touched him.

Nodding, Glory worked on trying to break the thing completely so it would fall off. She didn't want to pull on it and hurt him. Finally, she got it to fall apart.

A near-instant sense of relief came over Morty. He hadn't suspected it was the necklace that was giving him trouble, even though it wouldn't come off. He reached up and gingerly touched his neck. Where the necklace had been, it looked like it had almost been trying to eat away at his flesh.

Glory examined the necklace, trying to figure out what it was made of. She'd never seen anything cause a reaction like that.

Lleu was studying it, as well. It looked to be made of an odd, obscure sort of metal. It was probably poisonous to merpeople, since they were indeed a completely different species. Almost like how chocolate could be deadly for dogs, and grapes, too.

"It looks almost like an alloy of some kind..." Glory finally said. "Obviously, it isn't rusting, so there's no iron in it, but... I don't know what else could be in it."

"Some metals can be hazardous to us. Such as radioactive materials can harm humans," Lleu mused, studying it. He was careful not to touch it. Even though he was blind...he was a psychic, and he could 'see' in a sense. He had something much like sonar, and could 'see' through hearing. It was creepy, though, since he did have typical blind eyes.

"Which ones?" Glory asked. "Maybe we can figure out what this thing is made of."

"To my knowledge, I'm not sure. Do you have a Chemistry lab at school? Perhaps you could have it tested, on the claim that you found it in the ocean and it might be hazardous to the wildlife?" Lleu suggested, curiously.

"I could," Glory said. "Because, you know, the best lies are mostly true. I can ask around and see if I can get it tested somewhere."

Lleu seemed relieved, and he relaxed a bit. He was afraid to give Morty a hug, though, until he was fully treated. "...Now...where are we going to get him some fresh water to soak in? Salt water, according to your friend, is not going to work."

"That's not hard," Glory said. This was something she knew she could help with. "My grandmother and I live up topside, remember? We have running water, and it's all fresh."

Lleu seemed to sense there would be problems with that, and glanced back at his mate.

Morty looked a bit terrified by the idea. He was brought up to fear humans, in a sense, much like Léan was. Heading up into a human settlement was a bit of a scary idea for him, and he didn't fully trust Glory yet, since he didn't know her all that well. "You're not going to kill me or anything?"

"No, of course not," Glory said. She understood his hesitation. "I mean, I don't know of any other way to get fresh water, so if anyone else has any ideas, I'd love to hear them."

"I think that will do," Lleu replied, firmly. He fixed Morty with a serious, reassuring stare.

The man sighed, and then unwillingly started to budge up out of bed. He was not swimming very well, since he'd been bedridden for quite a while and still didn't feel quite right. "All right."

"Take your time," Glory said. "It'll take a little while to get everything set up right once we get there, so a bit of extra time won't matter. Fair warning, though, I do live with my grandmother, and I have to be awake at an unholy hour tomorrow morning for school."

"As long as...as long as there won't be any violence, I'm fine with it...I'd like to leave now so we can get there soon. I really want to get in water as soon as possible," Morty whimpered, reaching up to touch his hurt neck again.

"There won't be any violence, Nana doesn't allow it," Glory replied. "We can go now, if that's what you want." She was already figuring out the fastest way to drain the tank and refill it with fresh water, and almost considered the bath tub as well, since that would be even faster.
