Glory glanced out over the water, watching the lovely colors of the sunset start taking form.

"It's pretty out here," she mumured.

Léan glanced at her, and then followed her gaze. "I suppose it is..." He was so used to seeing the sunset over the water that he rarely took notice of the colors.

"It's different than back home," Glory said. "Brighter, somehow. Probably because we're closer to the equator or something."

"The what?" Once again, Léan looked confused. It was a term he had never heard before...equator...

"It's... like an invisible line that seperates the northern half of the planet from the southern half," Glory tried to explain. "The sunlight is most intense there. Remind me to show you a map sometime and I'll show you where it is."

"...Oh." Léan frowned. "That's a tad beyond me...I just think of the planet as a whole, and nothing more...no division."

"It's complicated, and mostly it's used to determine where exactly other people are on the planet," Glory said, thinking back to how her GPS in her car worked. "I tend to be directionally challenged when I drive, so I have a gadget in my car that tells me where I am and how to get where I want to be."

"I have a natural sense of direction most of the time when I'm underwater, so I don't need anything fancy..." Léan yawned, stretching.

"You're lucky, then," Glory said. "I used to get lost all the time until I learned the routes I needed to take. The GPS helps, especially when any directions are more complicated than 'take the first left and then go straight'."

"Mm...I usually use landmarks underwater. I travel quite often, but when I do find a place to stay, I memorize the ocean floor..." Léan informed her, amused.

"The city doesn't have many landmarks, unless you can tell the buildings apart," Glory said. "Sometimes it's not exactly easy."

"Ah, I see..." Léan seemed lost about that--surely buildings did not all look the same?

"It's kind of like being at the bottom of a trench," Glory said, using the closest comparison she could think of. "The buildings are all tall like that."

"Ah..." Léan nodded, seeming to understand. "Now I get it. Such a terrible world that must be...where everything looks the same." He closed his eyes. "Coral reefs are much better."

"It's not bad, just different," Glory said. "Something you get used to, that's all."

"I'd rather have everything be unique," Léan pressed, stubbornly. "That just...everything looking the same...that turns me off..."

"There are plenty of interesting things in the city if you know where to look for them," Glory protested. "The really tall buildings are mostly in the business districts. Places like Chinatown and Little Italy are interesting in their own ways."

"I suppose there are some exceptions..." Léan relinquished, finally. "I don't think I will ever like your 'big human cities,' however..."

"City life isn't for everyone, I agree," Glory conceeded. "Though small-town life seems too... quiet for me."

"Better quiet than loud," Léan hummed, making a face. It seemed he was more of a quiet, small-town sort of person. He didn't like large groups of his own people, and tended to stray away from traveling in groups, as well.

"One thing about the city though," Glory said wistfully, "is that there are so many people that nobody knows you. It's easier to be alone. Not like a small town where everybody knows everybody."

"Too much is too much. I cannot stand large settlements," Léan replied, offhandedly. "Cities are unfriendly places. Even under the water, they are. I stay away from them. I would rather live in a more friendly environment, if I ever do settle down with a group of some sort..."

"City life isn't that bad," Glory said. "Moving into a small town is awkward when you haven't lived there your whole life, though. It's kind of like you're always on the outside looking in, since everyone else has known each other since they were old enough to walk."

"I suppose that's true." Léan's voice was dry. It seemed he was stubborn on this subject. Well...strike that, he was stubborn about most things, anyway.

Rolling her eyes, Glory cuddled a bit closer to him and watched the sunset.

"I think we can agree to disagree on the subject," she said.
