The girl's friend introduced herself and then it was her turn to say her name. She sighed a bit because she agreed with Shadow, this was pointless. She wasn't one to argue with teachers though. "Maria Kenner" She answered clearly for the teacher to hear, but the room was so quiet that when names were called out it was easy to catch anyone's name. Though the only one that this would be helpful to would be Shadow because the home rooms were split up by class and the alphabetical order of their last names. The old woman then walked onto the next student.

A few people were looking with admiration at Shadow for standing up to the old bag. Others did not look so impressed.

Shadow himself seemed bored, and he absently played with a loose string on his turtleneck. It seemed he wasn't keen on learning anything at all today...

Maria and her friend went back to talking after the teacher sat down at her desk to work on papers. Every now and then Maria would glance at Shadow to see what he was doing. She couldn't possibly see how toying with a string on a shirt could be entertaining. Pretty soon the class was quite so Maria and her friend began to past notes until the bell rang.

As soon as the bell rang, Shadow eagerly stepped out of his seat, eyeing his schedule and pushing his hair back a bit, out of his face. Despite the...odd...hair color, it went well with his eyes and his skin tone.

He seemed not to be worried about lateness, for he spent an awful long time lingering there and staring at his schedule.

Maria and her friend got up and began walking to their next glass, which they had together. It was English in Room 604 that they were going too. Maria absently listened to her friend while wondering what class Shadow had next.

Shadow also had English, in the class next-door. He was lingering outside by the time Maria and her friends arrived, daydreaming. It looked like a pleasant daydream...

Maria noticed Shadow standing there and told her friend to go ahead into the classroom, that she'd be in in a bit. Once she saw her friend enter the room, Maria turned to Shadow. She noticed that he was daydreaming, but she wanted to talk to him about what he had done earlier. "Hey, wake up" she simply said, hoping that it was loud enough to awake him from his daydream.

Shadow blinked.

"That was a peculiar daydream," he commented, stretching his arms out. Despite his slender frame, his arms looked like they had a bit of muscle to them. "Hello, Maria."

She looked at him for a bit before deciding to speak. "Hello. I want to know how you knew what I was doing was for money. I'd also like to know why you were relieved that I wasn't flirting with you." She stopped for a bit and thought. Maria then looked down a bit, "and I also wanted to thank-you." She tucked a strand of stray hair behind her ears.

Shadow watched her idly, folding his arms across his chest in a relaxed manner.

"I...overheard the laughter of your friends and assumed," he replied off-handedly. "I don't particularly like being flirted with so suddenly. Especially when I am not familiar with my surroundings or with the person."

He blinked, then. "Thank me? What for?"

His answers were reasonable so Maria believed him. She keep her eyes more to the ground when explaining her reason for thanking him. "Well," she began. This was going more into her view of her friends than she normally would with someone outside of the group, let alone a male. "The girl that always bets us to do things...she runs the group so to speak. If I would have actually waited until the bell rang, I would have been ignored throughout the day for it being a tie, but worse if I just lost. But since you let me win....I'm seen more like the second hand person in the group...and 50 dollars richer."

Shadow didn't seem to react, but the corners of his mouth twitched, as if he wanted to smirk.

"Ah, politics. Such an awful thing," he mused. "No one person should be in control of a group, of any kind. With a group such as yours, everyone should govern themselves. I can only see trouble brewing with that."

Maria shrugged a bit. Really she had never seen a problem with her group, after all it wasn't like they were all going to the same college just because the 'leader' said so. "If that's you're view then I won't argue." she then looked at her watch, the bell was to ring in a minute. She stepped into her english class room and took her seat, not feeling bad for having left the conversation at that.

Shadow didn't seem to be one for trifle conversation, either. He shrugged it off, yawning a bit.

He trudged into his classroom just as the bell rang.

The teacher was a middle-aged man this time. He didn't seem to be caring about the students that were in the classroom because he was writing something on the board. Maira didn't pay attention to that and instead she started talking to her friend again.

Shadow, to his disdain, had another stuffy old woman for his teacher. He wrinkled his nose when she walked by him, tempted to throw something at her when she gave him a dirty look. Probably for his oddly colored hair and eyes, and the fact that he had a stud in one ear.

Soon the teacher was ready to start class. He told everyone to write down what was on the board and that they had a book to read and only a couple of weeks to do so. There was a collective sigh in the class as they started to take notes. Once Maria was done taking the notes, she began to pass notes back and forth with her friend, though this time she was thinking of Shadow.

Shadow was also stuck taking notes, though he barely jotted anything down. He spent most of his time staring out the window, daydreaming. The bell startled him slightly when it rang, and he was the last one out of his room. He paused in the hallway to check his schedule.

Maria got up once the bell rang and stretched a bit. Her friend told her that she'd see her later since they didn't have the next class together. Next Maria had math, her favorite subject. She waited around in the classroom for a bit, and when she went out she saw Shadow in the hall looking at his schedule. "what do you have next?" she asked.

Shadow looked up--he'd obviously been looking at something he didn't particularly like.

"French," he replied, sourly. "I think I am going to cut class."

Maria blinked. "why don't you like french?" She thought it was strange that a new student would skip class, but Shadow seemed like the type to do what he wants to do.

"I am fluent in French already," he admitted, seeming bored. "I am fluent in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Swedish, Danish, and Russian," he added, as if this wasn't a big deal. "My parents were prominent businesspeople. So, at a very young age, I was taught many different languages and lived in many different countries. After all, toddler and infant ages are the best times to learn a language."

This particular school only offered French, German, Spanish, and Latin.

Maria looked stunned. "That is a lot of languages to know." she blinked a bit "But how do you plan to skip class every day? Eventually the school will figure it out." She shifted her books to the other arm, for she held her books curled in one arm against her chest.

"And what will they do?" he offered airily. "If I stop showing up, they will be forced to cut me from the class. It's not as if my parents will care. They're dead."

He said that bluntly, shortly. He was eighteen and lived by himself, earning his own income.
