Maria was astounded at how easily Shadow admitted that his parents were dead. "then I guess there is nothing they can do" she said a bit sadly.

((Hiiii, Dei! :D Okay! We'll see what happens. I hated sharing the household desktop. I bothered my parents for years and years...and they finally relented and bought me a laptop for Christmas.))

He nodded, watching her for a moment. She looked upset. He sighed, scratching his head.

"My apologies. I didn't mean to sound so blunt about it. I was a little distant with my parents, so it's simple for me to talk about them...like they were never even there."

((Lol Dei is spoiled by her awesome senior friend-me- and may be on later to night -mostly because I will fall asleep from only having 3 hours of sleep and being up for over 14 hours now plus.....- She says to send her a message and she'll get to it when she gets online.))

She nodded a bit. "Of course it is. Even if they would buy food for you or clothes or some things you needed"

Shadow nodded, content. "Yes, true. I was sent off to live with my aunt and uncle...they did not want me. As soon as I turned eighteen, I left. I'd been working and have been earning my own keep ever since I turned thirteen. I don't need their help. And seeing as they aren't my legal guardians anymore...I don't get in 'trouble' when I do something wrong in school."

As they spoke, the bell rang. "Uh. I apologize for taking up your time. I'm going to run to the mall, about a mile down..." He'd seen it on the way here. "I am not going to French. I already know French. Care to join me?"

Maira frowns and shook her head. "unlike you I have parents, and can get into trouble for skipping class." She thought about it a bit more. Really she didn't care about whether she got in trouble or not, going with Shadow to the mall would be a good change of pace really. "But I'll go with you anyway" she smiled to try and show how sure she was of her decision.

Shadow smiled, happy to have a bit of company that wasn't an overly-drooly girl...or even an overly-drooly guy. He'd had so many people flirt with him in the past that he'd lost count...

"All right, then." Before any teachers could notice, he slipped outside and was heading for the parking lot.

Maria smiled and quickly followed him, only stopping for a brief moment to drop her books off in her locker. She then walked out the door and caught up to Shadow. "So what might you get at the mall?" She then remembered the 50 dollars in her pocket from winning the bet. She could go shopping too.

Shadow hummed a bit, digging in his pocket for his car keys. He didn't bring any books with him to class, which was rather strange.

"Clothing," he replied finally. "Or music. Or video games. Either of those would tickle my fancy..."

Maria nodded a bit. Those seemed like such normal things to want to get, though not that she thought about it...Shadow had always seemed to be normal or the normal rebellious type, but there was just this feeling Maria had that kept her thing that there was something strange about him. Maybe he ate apples with ranch or something silly like that. She noticed that he was getting out his keys to his car, she started to look around at the different cars in the parking lot, wondering which one was his.

Shadow dug around until he located his keys. He walked near the middle of the parking lot, extended his arm, and pressed the unlock button.

Two chirpy beeps reached their ears. They were coming from a very stylish, shiny, expensive-looking Jaguar.

Maria's eyes went wide as she saw the Jaguar. She looked at Shadow and then back at the car "you really have that much of a good paying job?" she sounded stunned beyond belief.

Shadow watched her reaction, amused, as he led them to his car.

"I just bought it about five days ago," he revealed. "I'd been saving up for it ever since I got a job. Nearly half of my paycheck every week went to it."

He opened the passenger door for her politely, smiling.

Maria still looked amazed. Seeing that he had opened the door for her, she got in. "it really is nice." She didn't know of what else to say as she buckled herself in.

Shadow hummed a bit. "Thank you."

He revved up the engine, carefully and quietly, and then quickly pulled out of the student parking lot, heading towards the highway. He was a patient, talented driver, it seemed.

Maria was happy to find out he wasn't a crazy driver like most males seemed to be. She let out a sigh of relief and then closed her eyes like she did in any car that she wasn't driving. Although she still had questions, she stayed quiet as well.

It was a quiet drive. Shadow was thankful for that--he preferred to stay focused on the road. However, that quiet also gave his mind leave to wander. And wander it did.

He was, of course, a vampire. But he couldn't tell her that--he never trusted humans with that sort of information. He was thirsty. He hadn't gone out hunting for...a week and a half, now? After two weeks, if his kind didn't feed, sickness would set in. And he would be dead in a month.

Being in close quarters, mostly alone, with a human was not a good idea. He'd known this, of course, but he'd been too kind not to offer her a ride.

The only time Maria had opened her eyes during the drive was when they were only a minute from turning into the mall parking lot. She had been thinking about what to buy on the ride there, though now she wondered what Shadow had been thinking about. After all, she always assumed that when it becomes silent that people think about different things than they had been thinking about before. "So when we get in the mall, do you want to stick together or go our separate ways for shopping?"

Shadow pulled into the mall parking lot soundlessly, pulling the key out of the ignition.

"I don't mind either way--I would be content both separating and staying together," he informed her. "It's up to you."

Maria got out of the car. "I'd like some company" She smiled some. Really she was enjoying the difference between Shadow and her friends. She then started walking to the mall entrance.

Shadow nodded wordlessly, stepping out and locking up his car. He walked with her up to the entrance, seeming a tad bothered by all the people there.

Maria noticed that he seemed a bit bothered by something, she decided to ignore it though as she walked into the mall. She looked at Shadow, "So what store do you want to go to first?" She smiled at him, slightly hoping to get his mind off what ever was suddenly bothering him.

"Anywhere is good," Shadow replied, seeming content. "Preferably a store that isn't too crowded...large crowds make me a little nervous..."

Of course, they made him nervous because he was thirsty...but he wasn't going to tell her that.

Maria stopped for a bit and thought about the stores. Pretty soon she walked off towards one of the side branches of the mall. She kept walking until she got close to the end of the branch and then turned into a store. The store was one that sold imports from other countries. Maria always went to this store when ever she went to the mall, always looking at the beautiful creations of other cultures, though she hadn't actually bought anything from the store yet. The store clerk was the only other person in the store right now.

Shadow seemed to relax more now that he was away from the throngs of people in the main hallway. He walked along the shelves, trying to find something that peaked his interest.

Maria smiled at the store clerk who smiled back at her. She noticed that Shadow seemed to be a bit calmer now, so she let her eyes wonder around the store. Soon she went to where the in-scents are and began taking some out and smelling them. She decided this time that she was finally going to buy things from this store, and in-scents were cheap enough that she could still buy other things in the mall.
