Clicky clicky mine too? =D
Also! Faeries based off of O.R. Melling's books go along with a ton of Irish folklore and old legends... Such as the major populace of faeries being divided among The Court and just other rogue fae that have to follow the basic laws. There is a main Faerie king of Ireland, and he will-on occasion-take a human as his faerie queen, the faerie queen is never fae.. I believe..
They can cast glamour, spells, charms, and curses... They come in all shapes and sizes and personalities. Though they love playing about, and are very different from humans in what amuses them, or how they work.. Y'know faerie stuff..
In Holly Black's books about faeries, the faeries are severely allergic to iron and there are two factions of the faeries, the Seelie and Unseelie courts. Though which court is evil is really hard to determine. One is stronger in the winter and the other is stronger in the summer. They also come in all different shapes, sizes, and personalities... There are a few faeries that don't follow the ways of the courts, but that is very rare. The courts are almost always against each other and at war.. These faeries too have about the same powers as the faeries of Melling's Ireland... Mainly Glamour.. Which is when they lay a spell that make things look and feel different from human reality.
=/ I'm trying to think of better ways to explain them.. But in both there are faeries that are human size, or faeries that are teeny tiny and pixie-ish. Sometimes the fae take on animal forms, or include various magical creatures... But they are the world of magic and dreams..
In Melling's books there is a balance between the human and fae world, making them co-dependent even though most humans are completely ignorant of this. In Holly Black's book's the fae are being pushed aside by humans, and humans get caught up in several of the court wars, or in fae life.. Either to the benefit of the Courts or just by accident..
Yeah... I can probably go on a bit more xD;;;

xD; Hm.. I'm basically going to tell you what happens in the stories okay? o.o;;
Because in both Tithe and The Hunter's Moon, there had to be a payment.. It's been a few years since I read Tithe so I forgot the exact reasons.. But the main character was to be sacrificed by the Unseelie court.. the supposedly dark court. A similar situation happens in Hunter's moon.... Only the Faerie court has to make a sacrifice at the Hunter's Moon in order to preserve both the Human World and the Faerie world. The sacrifice has always been human, and the human has always been willing to.. And the sacrifice truly has to be made, because if it isn't then both worlds cannot be sustained in balance..
In Melling's the Faeries go among the humans frequently, preferring humans that respect them of course, and know of the 'old ways'. The two worlds are literally practically on top of each other, but the Faerie world is much much weaker the further into human society.. If you go to the older places, such as castles from the old days, or country-sides then the influence of the fae is much stronger to the point where you can be pulled into their world entirely. You can be cursed, and tricked easily.. No one is entirely immune to the powers of the fae.. I actually love how Melling shows that even the strongest character has detrimental weaknesses to the faerie world.
Oh! In both books if you eat any food that's magicked/charmed by the fae... or even any fae food in general it becomes much easier for them to control or have an influence over you. Which means that their curses or trickery can become much much stronger, and it's easier to slip into the Faerie world whether or not you are close to society.
Hm... oh! In Tithe by Holly Black, the true name of the Fae are very important. If you know the true name of a faerie then you have the power to make them do whatever you want them too, in essence...
In Melling's book, the King of the Faeries has always been that.. However in Holly Black's version, the monarchy is constantly shifting and in peril... They are deeply tied to tradition, both of them.... However in Holly Black's it seems as if the Fae are more of a slave to their traditions..
