If you want to keep working on your current avatar, I'd suggest throwing in another color to spice it up a bit.

And if not, go to the shops or exchange or whatever and buy an item that you would never normally see yourself using in an avatar and try to creatively make an outfit out of it that you like. You'll surprise yourself with what you come up with and will probably wind up liking the item eventually.

Try a color you don't often use, or an item that's not used often.
I myself am working on the odd pink-cream-green dango thing on the MAC.
I don't know, I just need something to do, you know? xD

You should try to do a gradient avatar.
Where its white at the top, and slowly gets to black at the bottom.
