I've always thought pygmy goats were absolutely adorable. They're like a miniature version of a regular sized goat (comparable to a big dog, the mini version of it size wise, but these are cuter!) Why? They're really easy to maintain. They don't require a lot of attention (though I'd give it all I could since they're so cute!) They're primarily left outdoors to eat what they wish and can pretty much eat anything.
My girlfriend has a pet snake, and that's not very odd I guess but around here it is, as snakes are usually never pets. I live in farm country, so most "pets" are cows, chickens, farm animals. It wouldn't be too odd to have a goat here as a pet, but in some places it might be.
What odd animal would you like to have as a pet, and why? And what animals do you think are odd, though may not be in another area?
And for those who are wondering what a pygmy goat is, here's one!

That is such a cute goat, I wouldn't mind one of those myself
I would really love a pet pig, they are amazingly cute and a few days ago I was reading about a pig called Lowrie who was hand reared because he was the runt of the litter and thought he was such a sweety.
Pigs are one of my favourite animals, so yeah....that's about the only reason

Awww, it's adorable!
My mom thinks it's odd for me to want a tarantula as a pet. But for some reason, my arachnophobia doesn't apply to tarantulas, and I think they're fuzzy and cute. =3 But mommy says no, they're creepy, and I have to wait 'til I move out.
If I had my way, I'd have a ball python, too. And a ferret. And a chinchilla. And a bat. I love bats!

It'd be great to have a goat. (normal sized ones, not pygmys) I've known several people that raise them and they're not that much of trouble. I used to think it would be cool to have a llama, but ever since one tried to leap out at me over its fence, all making weird sounds and shit, I've been a little wary of llama's.

That goat is just too adorable 8D, and as for me, I've always wanted a snake as a pet. I've handled (wild) snakes before (never been bit). And snakes just seem so fascinating to me *o*

Maybe I was wrong, snakes seem pretty common then. ^^"
A sheep, really? Never heard of anyone wanting a sheep, though I imagine they'd be nice to hug since they're soft!

I had a couple of white lab rats and a rooster for pets...but they're all dead now. :(
My ultimate dream pet would be a snake. Been wanting one since kindergarten.
I also wouldn't mind a goat or a duck...or maybe a porcupine...or just about any creature that I can hug/pet. :3

Some of the mini-porcupines are quite cuddly, as long as you don't get them too agitated XD

Awww, it is cute! XD For some reason I always thought having a raccoon would be neat too. Other then that they are very vicious. They have cute little masks T^T

Hmm, I'd like a raccoon, though my parents keep telling me they'll mess up all our garbage and stuff XD
I'm also thinking of getting a goose or some other bird...but I still love my chicken best. <3

I'd like a moose... or bear. Tame Bear... With no way to attack me... Damn bears...
On a safer side wouldn't mind a sheep, or a hawk. Actually a Hawks probably not that safe either.

Racoons do not make good pets. My grandma had some that she kept because they could not be released back into the wild. It's also illegal unless you have a license to rehabilitate wildlife. Racoons get nasty really quick. They do not tame down either.
Anyway, I have a lot of "odd" pets although they don't seem odd at all to me. I have bearded dragons, an iguana, snakes, chickens, pigeons, rats, and ring neck doves. Every other pet I have people don't in general think they're too out there.
I get the weirdest reactions from people when I say I have pigeons. They really do make awesome pets though. They're very loving and love to be petted and cuddled. They are probably the best pets that I've ever had. They are cold hardy so they can be kept outside all year around but they are also tame enough where I can hold them and they love the attention.
I have one that I call Pearl that follows me into the house quite often and will follow me around the house of she will perch on my head and just sit there for as long as I let her. When she wants outside she flies to the door and waits for me to open it to let her out. She's too funny. The boys still love the attention but rather would stay out of the house and away from the dog.

Re: raccoons -- I've had two friends (otherwise unrelated except they both were from Alabama) who had raccoons as pets and they both said that they were IMPOSSIBLE to get them to stop doing something. Like, one would just open up the fridge and start rummaging around in the produce drawer. The other would steal stuff and flush it down the toilet. Lol, of course it sounds comical, but I would hate to have that drama playing out in my house every day.
Personally, I've always wanted to build a little aviary thing and keep flying squirrels. That would just be too cute. Sugar gliders are actually marketed as pets, but they look really fragile, cute as they are, so I really don't know. ._.
Oh yeah, I was doing some research on color, and I checked a book out from the library on owls, because they have such unique eyes. Anyway, I got to a chapter that read "Ordering Your Owls" and I got so excited that I started shaking, lol. It would be soooo awesome to be able to have an owl as a pet. Unfortunately, for anything wild you have to be licensed and open to inspection, etc. It wouldn't be the worst thing ever, but you would have to make it your business, there would be no way to 'casually' own one of these things.

I can't say I've had an odd pet before, though owning a Polar Bear or Tiger would be absolutely amazing. Polar Bears are my favorite animal, but they belong in cold areas, so managing to have one as a pet isn't very likely. Owning a Tiger would be awesome though. I would feel really safe, and I'd sleep against it. They are beautiful creatures. Now that I think about it, owning a wolf would also be awesome because of how beautiful they are.
