Do you ever get art block right when you need to do a major project? :s I have that problem now. I'm supposed to be drawing 31 homicidal puppets and can't get them to look how I want them to be. So I'm trying to find ways to overcome this and get some inspiration. Probably will go make "I kill you" faces in the mirror for 30 minutes.
So Art students..or even artists of Menewsha.. do you get this problem?
How about you non artists? Writers..ect. xD What do you do to break blocks.
No bulleted list of things to discuss :P It's obvious.

I get art blocks a lot, and it pisses me off @ [email protected] Though usually I'm browse roleplays, or just random pictures to get ideas of what I want to draw next. Though sometimes I get inspiring for drawings from some really random things XD

I often get artist block and I've been trying different ways to handle them.
One way is I simply walk away from the project and do something completely unrelated. Also I find just staring at what you've so far and writing down your thoughts about it helps. The thing I'm looking to try for next time is meditation, I read an article about the subject and it seemed to be worth a try. I post the article and maybe it'll help you.

Oh also here is an article that interviews professional artist on what they do when they have an artist block.

I haven't suffered it much since I started college, but it has affected me a few times. Then the idea comes two days before it's due and I get rushed trying to do my work.

I get the opposite problem! I have so many ideas.. but I haven't got the actual skill to draw them... that's why I write. But I still get blocks occasionally.

I get artist's block quite a bit. Heck, for the last couple of weeks I haven't produced one good thing that I planned. Just doodles and shiz. I'm supposed to be drawing out some chibis for class... I only have three left, out of twelve, and I have no idea what to do. All my good ideas I've already done, or I can't execute them correctly. It's starting to piss me off. Especially considering I only have until the seventh of next month! I'mna cry and get killed if I don't do it, which is only stressing me out and not helping at all... :(

I have two tactics that are polar opposites. I either draw and draw and draw constantly, like a complete maniac, or I walk away from it for a while, make some tea, take a breath/walk/shower, and come back to it when I'm less tense. One or the other usually ends up working. Going out to a public place and doing random gesture sketches can also help, just to loosen up my drawing-brain.

I often get art blocks. This whole semester I've been in Painting 2 in college and we've been dealing with past art movements such as post modernism, cubism, abstract expressionism. The readings are difficult, especially when it come to Post Modernism with writers such as Foucault and Barthes, but what is really difficult is applying their thoughts to your own works and trying to make your own works for that movement. Stuff like AbEx seems easy because most people think it's just randomly adding paint to a canvas, but it's hard because a lot of thought actually goes into it and you need to have good composition and you can't be all over or it's hideous. It seems that I've been experiencing art blocks more and more often. And then I only worry more, because I don't see how having an art block could be of any use to an animation student. XD I just had the hardest time completing my Final for my Design class, since I already have issues creating self portraits and then we also had to create 50 thumbnails. 50! I had to draw myself 50 times before I could work on the actual thing. And it took me sooooooo long. T_T
The best I can do when I have an art block is just force myself to draw (which is hard when I'm taking 18 credits at the community college before I transfer to Savannah). I doodle in class to keep my mind somewhat active (which, to me, is always better than falling asleep), and if I reallyyy need something, I just sit down and command my hand to do something. The result always turns out to at least be something my friends like, but they're what I would refer to as "brain farts." They don't really make much sense, and they content is about as varied as the stuff going on in my mind. XD
