I myself hardly ever post.

I lurk more or play games. and as of late I have barely been around.

for the most part, my reasoning is, not really interested, never anything for me to join in so I just lurk around and/or leave for a while. this site is just too slow for me sometimes.

Just thought I'd throw in my own opinion too based on my experience at Mene n_n. This is just my own experience, okay? It's not everybody's.

Of all the forum games sites out there (and I did get into a lot), in my opinion, mene is the most intimidating mainly because of the strict rules WHICH (wait, before anyone starts yelling at me) is a GOOD thing for THIS particular site, I do think so, because it maintains order. And after all, that's how the owners envisioned Mene. If someone doesn't like it, no one will be forced to stay, you know n_n.

This is the only site among all that I've tried that's ever given me a warning for a broken rule. But I do admit that I still go back because I think it has neat avatars and items. It's as simple as that (shoulder shrug). But that's what pretty much made me always think twice before wanting to post in any part of the forum. I'm just afraid I'd make a mistake that'd cause me to be rewarded with an infarction LOL.

But it's still fun to post here in mene though, because the forum layout's pretty neat and spacious.

Really? I've definitely been to stricter sites than Mene. Of course, none quite as large, but still stricter. =P

Also, I should hope breaking rules doesn't give you an infarction. xD

Mene does give infractions for rule-breaking, but it's pretty hard to unintentionally break a rule, in my opinion.
Of course, both of my infractions involve extremely asinine cases, one where an alleged friend of mine claimed I had harassed her (I call people 'whores' and the like left and right, and she very well knew that by then). The other was when I "advertised" another site on my profile... Which, honestly, you see a lot of these days anyway.

But beyond that, it's pretty damn hard to get yourself an infraction. Just be a kind person, find your niche, and let the fun begin! If you surround yourself with negativity and the like, it'll all backfire. Mene is more expansive than people think, and it's easy to just dive in headfirst, start your own hangout, and bam! You have your own group of friends in no time!

Anyway, I'd have to agree with Hermes here that there ARE stricter sites out there. Their strictness is just less prominent, for whatever reason; I've heard plenty of horror stories about equally-popular, if not more popular, sites. We don't have it as bad here as other places do.

I've heard more horror stories about smaller sites actually. On small sites there's less in the way of poor control and power-modding and the like. I personally find Mene is just the right size that I like, and the rules are just strict enough to control the people I don't like.

Really, Hermes? Ooh o.o. Then I guess I'm still lucky n_n.

Facade: Yeah, I agree it's hard to get an infarction when you're generally agreeable and amiable but in my case (it doesn't happen all the time with everybody), I guess it's just bad timing. Happens n_n. And yeah, they can be asinine (or just simply, well, bad timing xD )

Or could it just be the mix of users' personalities in a site at a given time? I mean, which determines whether a forum will be active or not or whether there would be more or less lawbreakers... Just a thought xD

Gah, people won't react the same you do nor the way you expect them to. people are people, we all are different and got different ideas.

It doesn't affect me, so it is fine with me whether they ever log again after creating their account, if they post or not.
myself I am an example my account was created months ago, and here I am tonight, browsing the boards and checking around a thread that talks about newcomers not using the boards.

Funny world.

People have the choice to post, and some newbies have never been on a forum-based site before, so they might not know how it works.

When I was really new I just posted in the general discussion. I used to be a member of Gaia and I was a frequent poster in the GCD (Gaia Community Discussion), but when I came here and looked in this forum, I realized I didn't really know much about the site. That, and..well, I was practically naked. So I stuck to games, and the general discussion to work up my first outfit. After that, I became more involved. I learned more about how this site operates. So maybe new people are just timid and afraid they'll say something dumb in front of users who've been here for years. I was afraid of that. I felt dumb asking questions such as, "where is the marketplace?" However, I learned that this is not Gaia, people are actually nice and helpful here! It's hard to be new to a site like this. But I think it was easy to meet people and make friends. : )

Because some people are just shy. I myself normally don't post in forums, but I figured out that in this site it's one of the ways to make money, so I started posting. At first not a lot, but then I got use to it, and now I post a lot more, but it's still kind of odd for me.

Sometimes new people can feel a little bit intimidated in a community like this. I know that no one means to be intimidating, but it happens. I mean, imagine walking into a crowded room where you don't know anyone, but lots of them are already in sort of clique-ish groups (not that I'm saying we have cliques, but

Some people just don't really like to post on the forums. It's up to them how they enjoy the site.

Well, that's my opinion at least. If they want to just play games, then let them.

Some people can come off unwelcoming, especially when you're new. Isn't it pretty common for newbies to remain a bit shy?

It's possible that they were mules.
Or people that join and decide that they don't think it's as "good" as some other avatar-based site.

I'm not a newbie any longer. In fact I've been on mene for just over a year. But its still rare that I post in forums. It seems like in most threads people already know each other and when I create a thread it dies quickly. Its just difficult to jump into a, excuse the lack of a better word, 'clique' when you're new.

Maybe they just want to check out the site before they officially do anything, see how things work and what the people are like. Or they're too shy. It could be because they just want to wait and play games and get more comfortable.
