I know a good bit about the series, but hadn't watched an episode until today

I used to watch it on tv in high school whenever it happened to be on.

I avoided it for the longest time, but tumblr made me consider giving it a chance

haha. Well tumblr is the home of fandoms.
and the best way to get me interested in something is to expose it to me to where i can't avoid it.
Dr. Who, Merlin, Teen Wolf, Sherlock, and maybe Supernatural are all on a list of to be watched because of tumblr

I've seen part of Merlin. I didn't like it, but I didn't watch from the beginning.

I try to watch stuff from the beginning because I hate coming in on the middle of things.
Not seeing the beginning of a series has helped me figure out a lot of things.

yeah, but sometimes all you need to see is a little random bit of something to decide you don't like it.

I feel it's easier to dislike something if you come in in the middle and you end up being confused for five episodes or whatever.

but if you dislike it for something other than being confused...

eh, I would still say it's easier to dislike in the middle.
not saying, you wouldn't dislike the series anyway, but easier.

oh I need to watch Torchwood too. but that's a Dr Who spin off

torchwood is supposed to be epic! I want to watch it more than Dr. Who.

Haha, well the main character of Torchwood, Jack Harkness, is in Dr Who. I'm pretty sure you can watch them separately though.
but to me since Torchwood is a spin-off I have to watch Dr Who first.
Just like, I would had to watch Buffy first, then Angel (not that I've watched Angel yet)

torchwood is more like the adult dr. who. they're actually not that connected and I've already seen the episode where the idea of torchwood is created. pretty sure that's the werewolf one.

Spin-off still a spin-off original series comes first.
