every episode follows the same basic pattern. set up of the supernatural event, sam and dean finding out about and going to look for it, sam and dean getting their doing some varying shades of research and usually breaking the law by disguising themselves as some employee of the government, they find out what the thing is, figure out how to kill it, try to kill it, it's inevitably too easy b/c they missed something, big showdown fight, and then they manage to kill it the right way, wrap up that usually furthers the main plot for the season/series. Tell me I'm wrong.

That is because you are watching later series episodes, it's entirely possible it's gotten better. the episode your watching is from season 7.

All of the episodes of season 1 and the ones I've seen of season 2 have followed that exact pattern

I just saw stuff about Cas. Yeah, interesting story indeed. It's kinda weird seeing it in flashback though. Usually it helps to see these kinds of things in order.

This is why I'm watching on Netflix and starting from the beginning.
