Nothing wrong with Quebec, it's just it seems odd that her mom would want her to go there of all places, when she doesn't speak French. Even if most people there speak English, it'd still be hard. I mean, everyone in Barcelona spoke Spanish as a second language, but Catalan was the first language and it was SO confusing. :gonk: So I get what that would be like.

Ari- Catalan is the language they speak in Catalonia, which is one of the autonomous communities of Spain (like the provinces and territories in Canada, or the states in the US, I guess.) It was so confusing. XD; I wasn't aware people in Barcelona spoke anything other than Spanish until we got there. So that was... surprising. :B I felt so dumb for not knowing, and so did a lot of people in my group.

Really? When I went to Barcelona back during the Christmas of '05, I never noticed it. But then again, my group and I that went where only there for a few days before going onto Madrid. Does Catalan even sound anything like Spanish at all? : O

Some parts of the city seemed to use it more than others, I think. In the more popular areas, things seemed to be more Spanish. Yeah, I think it's like... a mix of Spanish, French, and something else. Different enough to throw me for a loop, though. But our guide was fluent in it. Actually, he was not very good at speaking Spanish... He was from the US and had lived in Barcelona for sixteen years or so.

I find it amusing that he's a Spanish guide that doesn't know much Spanish, but plenty of Catalan. XD

It was kind of funny. XD Our Spanish teachers ended up doing most of the talking in Madrid. I went with my school. *nods*

Nice, when I went that Christmas to Spain and Morocco, it was with my family and family friends. :3
