@Lunar: what are you gonna use it for? And what is your price range? I use a net book since I don't game or do anything that requires ANY memory at all really.

I hate Dell, Gateway and Acer.

I was looking at HP, Sony, and Toshiba. I'm not sure about Macs. I've got the scholarship to get it, but I just don't know if I want one.

@Clarius I'm going into college with a major in multimedia design. It has to handle programs like Photoshop, and Corel Painter. Price range is up to 1750. I'd be happiest if it was around 1200 or less.

@Lunar: Seconding Maria about Dell. It's kind of hit and miss with them depending on which companies built the actual hardware.

@ Lunar - yeah, I have gateway most as well as macs and dell XD I'm just biased toward sony....if you are going to be an art major - don't get a netbook - they can't handle programs like photoshop and stuff

Depends what you are going to be using it for...Acers netbooks are nice for generic stuff (avoid the Dell laptop; they have heating issues) Toshiba laptop is amazing. And my Vaio isn't too bad. Compaq and HP laptops are meh.

@Lunar: If you're doing multimedia stuff, I'd recommend getting one of those desktop replacement notebooks. They tend to be more powerful because the size allows them to handle it, but because of their size it's also cheaper. Do you need your computer to be portable?
