Jules Verne is quite amazing. I think that it's great how his novels have stood the test of time and can still entertain audiences today. It's very tough for "older" science fiction writers to not become campy and laughable as technology marches on.

What's the Black Jewels Series about?

you know what is really cool about Jules Verne? it could be said that he was one of the first steampunk writers. because he was imagining a world that never would be but he tried.

Black Jewels is.. complicated to explain. Its based around a female run society and magic. Its a real fantasy novel with this dark chill to it.

I'm currently reading "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson. It's Fantasy, presented a little different. The magic in the realm is used by manipulating metals that they ingest orally. Different metals do different things. "Allomancy" is what they call it. Very interesting, it's great to see characters having to rely on resources that run out.

No, I haven't read her works, do you have any recommendations?

The first few books of Dragonriders are great. The first is especially good for sci-fi/fantasy. The White Dragon also starts to do this. Acorna, a series that she collaborated on, is also a great sci-fi fantasy series. Sure, it's a unicorn girl. But it's a unicorn girl that stops prostitution. IN SPACE. WITH MECHANICS.

@Massacre: I too, have read Laurell K. Hamilton's works. I haven't caught up with/finished? the Merry Gentry series yet, but I have read most of her Anita Blake books, as well as Nightseer. ^^

Knerd: You should really find the book and read it then. When I started reading it I was like 'bleh, boring tech stuff' but continued still and only a few pages after I was all absorbed into the realm of the book and had changed to like 'must... keep... reading...'

I like Anne McCaffery's Pern books a lot. ^.^

I heard Hamilton speak at a convention. She was funny. ^.^

Oooh! Anne McCaffery, haha. I have some of the Pern books, but it's been years since I read one. Those are probably my favorite dragon books.

I'm a huge Anne McCaffrey fan. My favorite book by her isn't a Pern book though I lived and breathed Pern for years, it's Crystal Singer. I just loved what she did with that character and world.

It's about a young, failed opera singer who mines crystals using her voice. In the world setting, it's a very glamorous and prestigious job, but also very dangerous for several reasons, which makes for a good plot and entertaining story. =D Killashandra Ree is a great, strong lead character.

Oh, Crystal Singer was a good one. I never got around the the sequel though.

Risika: It's about this woman who gets an elite job as a crystal singer, who are people who harvest special power crystals by singing at them. It's pretty great.

Edit: lol, Guivre said it better than I did.

I have too many books around the house to have room for much more.

I was trying to clean in my room the day before yesterday actually, and I tripped going down the stairs and broke my toe. v.v Oww!

I actually really don't have any room for more books either... But for some reason, they just keep piling up anyways. >.>

Ouch. >.< That really must have hurt.
