This is an event hangout for the TARDIS thread, and everyone is welcome to join us! We always have threads for the events and hopefully this one will be as popular as our other ones, and will attract the attention of even more Doctor Who fans who will then join us in the Menewsha Nation forum once the event is over.
You're welcome to talk about anything in here, Doctor Who related or not - our love for the Doctor is what brings us together, but it doesn't have to be the only thing we talk about. :)
Allons-y!

Sadly, I've never seen any of the Fourth Doctor. I've seen all of the new series, a few serials from the first series and a couple of episodes with Sylvester McCoy as Seven. And the 1996 film.

I didn't like Rose all that much.. I mean, I didn't dislike her, but I much prefer his other new companions.

Haha, Donna is so my favourite out of the new companions. It took me a while to get used to her but once I did, I was in love. :D

Martha was more in the taste of the older doctors companions in my opinion.... and how have you NOT seen any of Tom's stuff? he was the doctor the longest.

I have to say that Eccleslton was the first doctor I ever saw and rose was the…. Well you get the point but my favorite by far had to be Sara Jane Smith.

Rose is awesome. Martha was the one who seemed a bit dull in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'd love her to death if we were friends.. but she's not an interesting character personality. lol. Maybe it's because I identify with her a little too much for her to be interesting to me.

I know, I know, I am ashamed. Still, I love the fact that there is so much Doctor Who I have yet to watch and discover, so I'm not in a hurry to get through it all. I only got introduced to the Doctor about.. two years ago? Less than that even.

Nikki, have you not seen any of the new series then?

I think Martha started out really strong but then got really dull as the series progressed, and Donna was the opposite - started out really annoying but got better and stronger.

I just disliked the romance you have with the new companions, I just don’t like it.

----------

I have to say Danna did seem to be a pain but she was a good pain in the begin, but how could you make that choice? I mean COME ON its the doctor and the TARDIS for crying out loud.

That's why I don't like Rose very much, because of the romance aspect. I can completely understand the companions falling for the Doctor, but he should really know better. But I guess he was feeling very sentimental as Nine when he met Rose - all of a sudden, he was completely alone in the world, and then he bonds with Rose as his companion. So I think it is understandable that he would have felt a very special connection with her.
What I really liked about Donna was that she was completely the opposite of that. She had no romantic interest in the Doctor at all and they were just companions and friends. Completely platonic vibe.

Are you talking about when Donna decided not to go with the Doctor? Because I think that was fairly realistic actually.. what happened to her was really scary and anyone would need time to get over that. You have to be really headstrong to go with the Doctor, especially if you've seen the kind of stuff he gets up to. I know any one of us would not hesitate to go with him and everything, but if that sort of stuff actually happened to you in reality - giant spider monster and her children in the center of the Earth, you would be proper freaked out. Especially if you didn't know the Doctor, like we do. :P

But the doctor has been with out any Time lords since the time wars he should not be feeling sentamint now!
I was more of referring to the episode left turn. The one where she went back in time and made the choice to not go to the job. BAD donna

But as far as I can understand, the Time War happened between the old series and the new series. It is not talked about until the new series, so it would make perfect sense that the Doctor was feeling sentimental as Nine, since it seems that he has just lost everything to the war. And uh.. Donna didn't know anything about the Doctor then, so I don't really see what you're getting at. It was just a choice between two jobs.

I have to disagree ljosberinn. Through out most of the 8th Regeneration he was alone. He had companions but they didn't stay very long. Then the time war broke out. How he regenerated to 9 is a mystery but 9th was hotblooded and "born of battle" which is why in Rose he didn't want her to have anything to do with him.

I'd have to say my favorite right now is 11. I liked 10 at the time but everything I liked 10 for 11 just does better, and everything I didn't like about 10, 11 doesn't do. Like when the Time War comes up in the Tennant era, the sad music plays and he goes off on a five minute speech about how bad the time war was. In contrast in Beast Below some one asks Matt Smith about the Time War and he responds with: "It was a bad day, that's all, and I'd like to forget it but I don't."

With Tom Baker it really depends on which story you pick up. He went through three phases in his Era: Happy Tom, Crazy Tom, and Grumpy Tom.

I'm sorry, how do you gather that? The time war spanned from the beginning to the end of time in a time lock. It is never referred to in the Davison era or in the Baker, T. era and we know how Tom Baker regenerated. He fell off that radio tower (which puts a weird twist on how 10 could have survived that fall from the space ship but whatever we're done with that) In fact it is never mentioned AT ALL until Eccleston pops his head out of the Tardis. Provide evidence!

And further more in the story the Five Doctors as well as Arc of Infinity, BOTH 5th Doctor stories he travels to Gallifrey and the situation there is just fine! There's no war or anything. It is also stated that the Doctor's time line is related to the present on Gallifrey. Basically meaning he can't travel into Gallifreyan past or future.

All I can say is, I'm glad Amy won't be one of those girlfriend-type companions. Rory is awesome, and we've had enough romance for a while now.

I'm really liking Matt Smith so far. I think he's hilarious. I just am not sure I like Steven Moffat's writing style yet. There's just not as much character development and emotions and I kind of miss that. He tends to keep the action going so there's not as much time for the characters to react.

SPOILERS for Vampires of Venice: Like at the end of the "vampire" episode, when Rosanna jumped off the pier, I was expecting the Doctor to tear up and have a moment to mourn the death of a race, but it showed his face for a second and then cut to a different scene! It made me sad.

Yeah, I know what you mean about emotions and character development. I mean, RTD got annoying at times, but Moffat seems to be the other extreme.

Hi! Yeah, I know. I kinda disappeared off the face of the planet because of all the projects I had to do in my drawing class. xD

They need to get a writer that can find the balance between character development and action and doesn't get carried away trying to make the plot "epic". Maybe they will eventually.
