Yeah If I was good at drawing I would have done design. But apparently they don't like the anime look in the portfolio my friend failed twice because they didn't like her style

I only had one drawing class in my first year, now it's all design

at my uni you can choose between graphic design and illustration, so those who love drawing and are good at it do illustration, those who love design do graphic design

it seems silly that they would fail your friend for not liking her style... markers are supposed to be objective... it's about how well someone is able to apply their illustrative style to different projects and how they have refined that style

I don;t even know. But I think it was Print like Copy editing more so than Illustrations. Graphic Design does Illustration and the computery stuff

hmmm... weird, at my uni that sort of print stuff is part of graphic design, not so much copy editing though, and illustration is separate :/

I know nothing about art stuff. I took an Art History in London and that was about it. Lol

see graphic design is quite different to art really... they're both visual, creative practices, but design always has a meaning and purpose and it's a lot more structured than art

O.o I know here you have to be accepted by the program to be graphic design. And they critique the work a couple of times through out the process hence the portfolios

yeah there wasn't a portfolio or interview process to get into my course, it's done based on your marks for whatever you studied last, but those with low marks can submit a portfolio to be considered

there is an interview process to get into the honours program of my course, and you have to have high enough marks, but really there's no test of existing skill to get into the course in the first place, it's assumed that anyone applying has some basic understanding of art and design and those who just apply because they don't know what else to do usually drop out fairly soon when they find out what it's really like

Yeah that is different than here. They think artists have no people skills I guess?
