Yeah. I dunno if you saw the conversation last night but I have a completed Round Robin story that I adore to pieces so I'm trying to figure out a way to rewrite it into my own original work without feeling like I'm stealing my partner (who has long left the site) characters and work.

I'm fairly certain I can do it, because there are only about oh 2 characters of hers that tied real deep into the storyline (we were mostly using my characters) and the rest either will be removed or are generic enough that if I make my own versions of said character it shouldn't be that bad. The dialogue is pretty cliche as well. After all there are only so many ways you can write the scene of "I have your friend hostage. I'll exchange her for you, my pretty"

But her characters and works aren't my only problem. The characters of mines that we used, some of them belong to other original work... so then the question becomes do I scrap their original story or I clone my characters and remake new ones to take the places of the existing ones so the existing ones can go back to their own story?

Is there a way that you could tie your round robin story into the universe that your characters previously existed in? Or are there too many conflicts to be part of the same universe?

Hmm yes and no.

Seika and Ita have no real "universe" that they belong to. This is mostly because Seika was original character created for my Naruto fanfics and Ita is the result of a very very very OOC Itachi. So their original story is more or less flexible enough to fit into whatever universe I place them in.

Black and Asho well their original story is basically what this entire round robin is about just placed into a magic fantasy land so they'll probably stay.

However the rest of them, they belong to a universe where they're considered to be immortal spirits... so yeah that doesn't kinda fit. But when I think about it, they don't have a storyline, just a universe... so Hmmm

*smacks seiki and steals back drink*

For that last set of characters, I would just drop them into the Round Robin universe and say "ehhh... they're reincarnated. Or something. STFU, you're not the writer. MY STORY! D<"

Or just not say anything and hope no one notices.

lol They can be mean, but they can also be very sweet and friendly, and especially funny. Our bird learned to cough from having stayed with my grandma for a week while we were out of town, and now whenever someone coughs he'll put his foot up to his beak and make a coughing noise. Hmm there is also the problem with Black and Asho's story. They're apart of a complex universe theory that I like to call Abstract Reality. Or Broken Reflections. This is the theory that two universe are the connected, have the same characters (but the circumstances and relationships of the characters differ) but a totally different storylines. I suppose I could just figure out a way to enter it in.... xD

I usually just allude to someone's background story when I'm writing characters that most people are already familiar with. That way its like "hey, this is important, but not to the story at hand. But if you want to know more about them, you should read [insert backstory here]!"

xD haha that only works if they exist in the same universe!

@ Hyena - lol Yeah, he can be pretty funny. He also has learned to do fake hiccups from me. He even times them perfectly even while he's doing other stuff. And whenever the phone rings, he'll say hello. xP;;

Maybe you should just put a fresh coat of paint on everyone and say "this is a new character." And if someone asks about it, either explain it to them deny it. Depends on how you feel that day.

I might just clone the last set of characters. Only two are super important and I can get away with either dropping or only vaguely mentioning the rest. I didn't use all the characters from the old universe anyways... so they're back to being storyless. xD

It's sad because I did use them in another RR with their original intend storyline and I don't love the idea as much as I love this one. They might be storyless forever!
