Luchen lays in the shallow end of the ocean near his home, watching the boats come in and out of the port. He sighs, content yet wary. He was always wary in this area, especially after his sister was killed by a fishing net covered in barbs. He glances around to see if anyone can see him and pauses when he sees a flash of red hair. He slips back a bit, under a dock and watches the person. He's too far away to tell the gender.

Elizabeth walks aimlessly along the beach, lost in thought. The semester had ended, and in a few days, she was supposed to be returning to her parent's house for the summer. She was looking forward to it, but she had a feeling that the closeness of her family would only serve to highlight her own loneliness. She spots the dock in the distance, and decides to head that way, possibly to sit on the end and think.

Luchen freezes when the girl comes his way. He ducks under the water so only his eyes are showing. They're a light pink color and narrowed. 'I hate people. I especially hate people coming near me,' he thinks sourly. He'd never been an overly friendly person, so this isn't surprising. He grumbles under the water to himself.

Elizabeth is unaware that she is disturbing anyone. She continues down to the dock, sitting down on the edge, and dangling her feet in the water. She splashes around a bit, the silliness distracting her from her worries for a little while, but they soon return to being foremost on her mind. She sighs, wondering why she is so indecisive about the course she wants her life to take.

Luchen shuffles back but hits the pole, making a thud sound. "Graceful...," he mutters under his breath. His eyes are still narrowed and he hopes the girl doesn't notice him.

Beth starts as she hears a thud, and feels the dock vibrate a little underneath her. She quickly pulls her feet out of the water, fearing that a shark or a possibly tetnus inducing piece of garbage has hit the dock. Curious, she lays down, and leans over to see if she can see anything.

Luchen tries to get fully under, but finds out that water isn't deep enough. His bright orange hair is still showing. His tail, however, is hidden under him. He holds his breath, hoping he's hidden enough. He closes his eyes and waits.

Elizabeth notices the patch of orange, and is curious. It doesn't look a fish, and it doesn't look like a rusty piece of metal, either. She scoots herself further out over the dock, and reaches to try an touch it, to see what it is. It is too far away, so she pushes herself a little farther out. She tries again, but still can't quite reach the orange patch. 'Just a little farther' she thinks to herself and tries to inch forward, but in doing so, she loses her balance and falls into the water, with a large splash.

Luchen lifts his head when she falls in. He snorts, looking amused. He shakes his hair out a bit, getting it out of his eyes. "You shouldn't try to touch unknown objects. What if I bite?" He looks serious, the only thing betraying his amusement are his eyes. He leans back a bit, not exposing his tail.

Elizabet stands and turns to the source of the voice, blushing and a little confused. "How else am I supposed to make the unknown, known?" She says defensively. She pauses for a moment taking in Luchen's appearance. "What are you doing hiding under a dock, anyway?" This time her tone has more of curiosity in it then ire.

Luchen folds his arms. "Hiding from people. Why were you on the dock?" His eyes are suddenly wary and narrowed. His tail is still hidden.

Elizabeth laughs. "I was thinking, sulking really. Why were you hiding from people?" She frowns a little. "This is pretty far from the usual swimming spots, and it's not a good idea to swim alone without a life guard."

Luchen snorts. "There's no way I can drown. I--...I grew up around here. I know these waters. And I know where the unsafe areas are." He shrugs. "And I'm not a people person. At all."

"I can understand not being a people person, I'm not really one myself. But even if you know where it's safe and where it's not, unexpected things can still happen..." There is a genuine concern in her voice. She sighs, and looks at her soaked clothing. "Walking home is going to be such fun."

"No one told you to fall in," he notes pointedly. He still looks amused, however. He glances up when he hears foot steps on the dock above his head. His eyes narrow again.

Elizabeth is oblivious to the footsteps, sighing, then grinning at Luchen. "No one told me to fall in, true, but if you hadn't been hiding, I wouldn't have."

Luchen sighs when the footsteps recede. "I suppose you're right. But it's not like I was waving a sign to come find me, or looked like I was in any distress." He seems to have a strange manner of speaking and isn't used to talking to people.

Elizabeth laughs. "True enough!" She smiles at Luchen. "Where are you from?"

Luchen nods. "Zosimo." Zosimo is a port town about a mile away from them. He grimaces a bit. "My sister and I grew up there."

Mara's voice is carefully neutral as she asks "I take from your expression that you didn't have a pleasent childhood?"

"Eh. My parents were fine. I had more issues with my Uncle than anyone." He shrugs. "I just didn't really like the area. Too peaceful for me."

Elizabeth nods, and sighs. "I should probably go find dry clothing and finish packing." She doesn't look as though the prospect pleases her.

"That would make sense," he states, calmly. "You don't look excited though." He pushes his hair out of his eyes a bit. It's easy to see he's still wary, though.
