well people use acronym as a blanket term to describe anything that is an abbreviation using first letters. this is not actually how the words work though. an acronym is an abbreviation of first letters that forms a word (like B.A.P.) it forms a word. while something like NAACP would be an initialism because we say each letter separately rather than making them into one solid word.
