Awful writing is awful writing and hood ornament characters are not interesting to write with. Nuff said.
Yeah heading home. Was good. I need to look up bartok now.

yeah. and i mean i taught english for a couple semesters and tutored for several years. i've seen plenty of bad writing.
but i don't associate something from like the popcorn reading set as being bad unless it's actually bad writing. like they all have merit, even if i don't necessarily like them.
and honestly i'm gonna give a slight nod to anything that encourages people to read
yeah except art gets more complicated. my old roommate and one of my other best friends was an art major at my university. and they were very much into the modern and postmodern arts movement. well my friend's style was more traditional and she pretty much was completely not accepted for that.

Hood ornament characters are so pointless, and when they're the main character..*sigh*
---------- Post added 05-08-2015 at 11:13 PM ----------
YES! art industry is very picky, and that's so unfortunate for her, to be told your style is too different and not accepted in their standards. :(
I chose a scientific career and will do art for myself on the side

To be honest, if I were her, i would feel so defeated and depressed, but I hope she is faring well and is still sticking to her own style.
Yes, you can't help but feel bad when things are going good for yourself and not for a friend!
Thanks, I think it will be a good balance. I love science and art and wish to do both.

she actually stopped doing art for a good bit of time. she's slowly getting back into it.
and if you wish to do both nothing should stop you from doing it.

I see, well I wish her the best :)
Thank you for saying that! I'm have always doubted and second-guessed myself, but I've been trying to tell myself that I can do it as long as I study and make good choices. I must say that it is working out so far, I am receiving high grades and have made a plan with my counselor to transfer to UF next summer

i'm a big advocate of never stopping doing what you love just because society tells you you have to pick one thing. if you like two things and want to do both of them. do it. let nothing stop you.

I couldn't agree more!
My father encouraged me to draw, but not to pursue it as a career. They wanted be to pursue my goal to become a veterinarian. However, interning and working at the animal hospital gave me an inside look and showed me I really didn't want to be one.
I mentioned become a computer animator or story board artist but he wasn't as encouraging. Miami Art Institute was interested in me, but he did't support it..I was very depressed.
However, now I learned to not care what he thinks anymore!
I did decide to pursue sciences, but I will never stop drawing!

I had a great time in school and learned a lot about myself, but I also learned art is so strange of a thing and not that interesting to me.
You should always do what you want and I'm so sad that we live in a society that makes that so hard for creative minded people that don't have an interest in other practical jobs.
Those are fairly practical jobs. Honestly one should support that. Should support traditional studio art too, but that's not as practical so I understand.

Yes, I too would probably loose interest because I do not really like being taught how to go about art, I'm very independent.
I know, it's so sad and messed up...

Yeah. My parents were supportive and are kinda not supportive that I've mostly given up art. My dad is always telling me art related stuff to do. Mostly things I'm not capable or qualified to do though.

@Wings, Yes, like I understand if I was choosing bad career path, but I wasn't..
---------- Post added 05-08-2015 at 11:34 PM ----------
Yeah, I do not understand, like, you can't force someone to become skilled at something they have no interest in dedicating too much time for. So then you get frustrated and feel like a failure

my parents are pretty good about being overall supportive. i change my ideas of what i want to do and they're like okay go for it. just do it.
but most of my interest are "practical" career paths.

That's great that they are like that!
My mom supports me no matter what, and I may have played my father off as the bad guy, but at the end of the day, he wants me to be happy.
They do like that I am pursuing science.

my level of feminism and support for lgbtq+ rights drives them crazy a lot. but eh.

I am both those things as well, and he gets annoyed with feminism and is so ignorant. But I don't waste my time with him on those subjects. meh

My parents are more supportive of different people. They're so practical though. My dad doesn't get that just because I have some artistic talent that I can't do every kind of art. I'm not going to suddenly become an animator so I can have my name on movies. Im trained as a painter. Like he doesn't mean bad, but my parents really don't get me.
I was wondering how your fam handled you changing career paths there, wingsy.

My parents would not, but they are practical supporters of quitting when you have something lined up already. It's the unemployed wandering in the middle they take objection to.

okay so i'm not entirely sure i understand this:
