Hi, I've been around other avatar communities some, but this is my first time here.
I am studying to be a photographer and I like to doodle in my spare time. I am always looking to make new friends too!
Nice to meet you all.

Hello and welcome to Mene! What kind subjects do you like to photograph? I love doing nature scapes mostly. My mother owns a photo business so I guess I got the gene :)

Very cool! Are you wanting to do like travel brochures and things like that? I've met a few people that do similar things like you whom do that.

Most of my travel stuff at the moment is "fine art" (aka a hobby), but I would love if people would pay me to do it, lol.
Most of my main subject matter you would find in cookbooks or in food advertisements. I <3 playing with food.

Haha, that's awesome! What do you think about that fake food that looks real that advertisers are using these days to make their subject look appealing? Do you prefer taking photos of real food rather than that?

It's all real food... mostly. If you are selling the product, it can't be fake food, but if it is just an accessory, it doesn't have to be. For instance, milk in cereal ads tends to actually be glue.
I mostly shoot real stuff. It's good to practice on the real thing. Even though I do look rather silly when I go shopping for prop food. I once spent over an hour in a grocery store in the fruit and vegetable aisle. But food can be expensive, and I as a student can only afford so much.

That's totally understandable. There have been times that I have waited for over an hour just so I can get a shot with the lighting I wanted. If you are shooting food, you want to find something that catches your eye.
Photography could be a pretty expensive venture but can also be rewarding. I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you! And best of luck with yours as well!
I am so impatient when it comes to nature stuff. I have a tendency to either go out because the light is good, or just take the shot as is.

I usually bring a good book to read and just sit and wait. Good way to get the shot I want but also a good way to go through books :-D

Welcome to Menewsha! :D
Photographing food would be really hard I think. You have to make everything look sooo tasty! What a challenge! Got any good tips and tricks for achieving a good food shot?
I'm an amateur photographer myself, but have never tried food photography. I prefer scenery/people for the most part.

Thank you! I mostly doodle stuff around me. I'm trying to prefect that whole "drawing from life" thing. I also do some occasional avatar art for people on different forums. At some point I might bust out my tablet and do some here!

My biggest tip for food is a giant light source from the back. Windows work wonderfully. Also, you need to have lots of patience, as it takes a lot of fiddling to make your subject look how you want it in the camera.
I'm not a big fan of doing people photography. I seem to have this amazing ability to take pictures of people when they look their absolute worst. It's something that I really should practice more...

Lighting from the back -- good to know! :D And I can imagine that it does take a lot of patience. You want those photos to come out just perfectly, and with food, I can see how that could be a struggle.
hehehe. I haven't taken a really nice portrait in a while... just a lot of random snapshots. I should probably make more of an effort to photograph people in a more professional manner...
