So, this really amazing site called Chiniba is closing down.

You don't know how hard it is to host the website and run it.
So don't offer so lightly.
You NEED your own hosting. No ifs, buts, or why fores.
Transfering everything isn't as easy as you think.
I would need to give you ftp access so that you can download all the files(and there are MANY)
so that you can then reupload them to the new site.
I'd also need to give you a back up of the database.
And it would be up to you to reinstall the forum and get it working again.
I wouldn't be offering support of any kind.
You'd be on your own.
I think it's just best if the site closes down.
It takes up too much time and money.
Anyone know about this stuff? I would really love to help keep the site alive, but I do not know all the things he is talking about. At the current time I do not have the funds to keep it open, unless there is a donation item that can be used to fund the site.

Any other thoughts? Ideas? Questions? Comments?

I tried to visit the site and just got a blank page -- so it looks like it's fully closed. That's sad to hear.

If you're interested in hosting and learning about webpages, start by looking up phpbb, learning about HTML and FTP -- there are TONS of online sites that can teach you the basics -- and try coding something yourself on, say, a geocities page. (Is Geocities even around anymore?) Or Google sites. You'll learn by messing around in it, and it's a lot of fun.

I'm sorry the site couldn't be saved. :(

that sucks if it got closed and you liked it. I remember this site i use to play called VMK. I miss that game. I know its for kids and i'm a teen but, id so go on it. Its pretty fun. I think i joined chinibia if you mean the one with the tiny avatars but, i didn't like it much. I guess i really didn't like that the avatars were too small though. you should try contacting that person and asking if they still have the files.. If not i'm sorry. I've lost sites i've liked too.

Sorry Nessie, I know nothing of that stuff. Though I have to say from what I saw when I was a Chiniba I didn't like it much. :(

to be bluntly honest, if you do not know how to do those things, chances are, you aren't going to be able to keep the site online.

If you really want to try, and you want help figuring things out, Message me on MSN and I can teach you the basics and/or help you with it. (it's raine_dragon --(at)-- hotmail.com Replace --(at)-- with the @ symbol, no spaces)

I could possibly host it on my server for you at least temporarily...

I don't know, Chiniba has a pretty bad reputation, so I'm not really interested in getting my name too mixed up with it's general operations for fear of people assuming I had any part in past management.

I'm not saying this to be mean; if you really want to go for it, I'm certainly game for helping to teach you some things... but at the same time, I don't want to mislead you into thinking it will be an easy thing to do. And if it were just about any other site, I'd be far less reluctant, but certain members of the Chiniba management team have been far from... civil in my past experience, and I'm worried about the general PR aspect of things.

I loved the bases with small body and a big head, especially the eyes, I was sad when I heard it was closed down.
