Well, I was reading something from another site about a B.j.d. and realized that I wanted one really badly, I don't have him/her yet but I can't wait to get one, I'd like to know if anyone here has one, or wants one as bad as I do. lol.

The doll head that I want is this;;
http://sinyland.com/slimg/big/blesswhite.jpg

But I'm still not sure really if I want a girl or a boy first. I know I'm going to end up having more than one, but I'm just trying to make my first decision. :3 They're so amazing, if you don't know what they are, ask me!

oooo I've thought of getting some, too. I figure they'd make great models when I can't get a real person to sit still long enough. XD My friend's got a few. One's a girl, and I think she has two guys.

I'm going to get a 1/6th first, and I'm going to save up for the 1/3 and then eventually i'm going to get a 1/2. :3 They're totally amazing looking, and I think I'm going to use mine for my photography as well, :3 it would be cool to do its make-up too! :3

I definitely recommend browsing denofangels.com. Their forums have tons of information on different types of dolls, thousands of pictures, and loads of helpful advice on buying, taking care of, and loving your ball-joint dollies. <3

Well, for me, i searched for an entire week. Then i fell in love with Ducan, a DreamofDoll model. He is sooo lovely :3
The best advice I could give you is, for your first doll at least, just look for a doll that you're in love with. It would be a waste to get a doll that you don't absolutely love for hundreds of dollars. You might as well buy a cheap babydoll. (not really, but I hope you get my point) It doesn't matter how long it takes, just so long as you find that perfect, wonderful doll. ;) Hope i helped some.

Oh i've been on DoA! :3 I love it! also Dream of Doll is good as well. But I can't seem to find a cute 1/6 dolly anywhere and it makes me sad. :'[

----------

&& you DID help me, I'v ebeen trying to decide what doll i've wanted. But I realize that I'm in love with the head that i posted---that is the face of the girl that I'm going to buy, i just need her body.
and besides, I' want to have a job, and a lot of free time that way I can spend lots of time withmy doll, which I will do.
So I'm going to buy a 1/6th dolly. :3

I've wanted one of these for about two years.
I can't afford one and won't be able to get one for a long time, but i'll be getting a male first, probably order a few different eye sets to switch it out with wigs and such. It'll probably look feminine, but i'll use it for photography.(:

They all tend to have a little feminine parts to them, but in a way the men are masculine. :3 and I won't be getting a large one for a while, like the girl that i picked up there--I won't have her for a while. Sadly, though. But I am getting a Pullip first.:3

Then eventually as I get more and more, I'm going to get a 90cm doll, ;3 oh yeah.

Wow they are gorgeous. I am not entirely sure I know the term Ball Jointed Doll though. Are they simmilar in size to Barbie dolls or are they more like China Dolls?

If I had to say anything, they are closer to China/Porcelain dolls than anything. There are videos on YouTube about Ball Jointed Dolls, I'll put a link at the bottom to a 70cm comparison to a human being when I finish explaining a little about what they are. Although they are dolls, they are very expensive for a few key reasons.

1. they are completely personalize-able. You can take their eyes out, make them larger, smaller, different color...etc. You can change their wigs, clothes, and you can even swap their hands and feet out for better hands in your opinion, and you can change their bodies, and their heads if you don't like the way that their face looks. You can do so much with it. :3

2. They are hand-made out of Resin/ sometimes Vinyl. Which makes them sort-of fragile, but not exactly, just don't drop them or play too rough with them.

3. They are Ball-Jointed, which means, exactly what it sounds like. Their joints have balls instead of a wire skeleton like a Barbie has. So they are able to hold many poses, very LIFELIKE poses too.

4. Professionals use them for photography, art, clothes, jewelery and more, they're used for many things.

There are also some bad points to the dolls. But not many, just things you need to be aware of before you get a doll and expect it to stay the same forever.

1. Their make-up will not stay on forever, it is termed as a "face-up" and thus you must take the doll apart and do the make-up on the doll yourself, there are many different kinds of ways to do the make-up and there are also some rules you have to follow, like do not use any oil based paints/pastels/penciles. But use acrylic paint...etc. The face-up will not stay forever, so you should stray away from touching the face a lot.

2.The dolls can yellow if they are exposed to UV rays for too long, so there is a sealant (a sealant is also smething that you need to do face ups with if you want it to say on.) that protects against UV rays, kind of like sun block...but for a doll.

3. Every now and then you have to tighten the strings, (if your doll has strings,,,for instance a 'Pullip' doesn't have strings.s) so that its arms and legs aren't Floppy.

Basically that's all that I know...but of course there are some other things I know about, you can just ask me, and of course if you need a link or anything, just ask me. :3

YouTube - 70cm BJD Comparison

This video is a girl who has a 70cm doll, and shows how it looks next to a girl about 5'8 in stature. :3 Btw: the dolls can come in different sizes, from 10cm-90cm. the higher the size the more expensive the dolls tend to be.

I watched a few videos on them and I have to say that they look amazing. Some of the positions are so life-like it is unreal.

How much do they generally tend to cost? *wants one*

They range in cost really, though it's not recommended to go cheaper if you don't like the model they can still be expensive if you don't like the mold.

My tiny (27cm) was $170 with only default eyes where my large SD13 boy (64cm) was $295 nude doll and default eyes. Then I had to add $50 each for face ups. And that's on the cheap side of the spectrum, I said not to go cheap but I'd fallen in love with the mold and the bodies.

My SD13 came from a newer company, I won't be surprised if the prices go up as they become more popular and they are quickly doing so.

I have an Angel of Dream Ni Ni, she's my tiny though.. I've been considering selling her.. I've not bonded well with her once I got my Impldoll Bosco. He fills the place of my OC Lesley, and all my money has been going towards him rather than the girl - who only has barbie clothing. xP

Wow I had no idea that they would be so expensive! They look amazing though. I shall definately have to invest in one at some point. I am writing a new story and I think that having one of them to be my main character would be epic. I will have to do a little research :)

I don't see the appeal in these things other than smashing them to bits or lighting them on fire but then again, I didn't like dolls as a kid either.

They are not overpriced when you look at what goes into them. They're hand crafted, the factory is not machines but artists. Not only do they work at making the dolls but also clothing, wigs, eyes and shoes.

You are buying what some would call a work of art and you should expect to pay a price worthy of it. No two sculpts are the same (compared to barbies who all have the same face) and the large ones range from 60cm to 80cm some rarer ones are 90cm. 60cm alone is over 2feet in height. (Well ranges close to. 64cm is 2feet 2inches)

They are beautifully crafted though, even bodies between companies are never the same.

I'm a writer, but even if I weren't any sort of artist I'd still love my resin family.. Of two and plans to grow it.

Plus they hold their value if you ever decide to sell. I doubt I will though.

Yeah, when you put it like that I can see how the prices are ranged. Are you planning a male or a female next?

Vix Viral: I'll be sure to keep my dolls away from you. o.O And spending that much for something to destroy is ludacrious.

Vexatious: I'm planning all males. Aside from Tinies that is. I may get one female sometime in the future... but Males are what I love in the dolls. (And all my characters are male..)

I love Ball Jointed Dolls. They are amazing, and make me happy. I probably won't own one for many years though. T.T The one I want is a Nono from Volks.

I would also just like to link to a hangout thread for these dolls that needs more people to keep it active:
http://www.menewsha.com/forum/commun...ted-dolls.html

Anyhow, all my characters at the moment are roleplay characters. Though I myself am a girl I hate playing girls.. so that is why all my char's are boys.

I think sometime I'll get a female MSD to dress in lolita gowns though.. they're beautiful.
