Léan tilted his head. "Er...is that a nickname or something?" he asked, puzzled. "Jesus. What does that mean?" Of course, he wouldn't know about human religion. The concept of 'religion' in general was foreign to merpeople. They did not have it.

Emy blinked, then swam up to him. "Wait...you don't know who Jesus is?" She looked completely bewildered.

"No. I have never heard that name before." Léan looked utterly mystified. "Should I?"

Emy sighed and shook her head slightly. "I guess merpeople wouldn't know who Jesus was...is. Well, do you know what a god is? He was said to be the son of a god that was sent to earth to save God's children...humans...and merpeople too...from going to hell. Since we were doomed to hell since our birth. His son was said to die to save us from our fate. All we have to do is repent and believe in him as our savior and we're set." She smiled slightly, then wondered if he even knew what she was talking about in the faintest.

Léan arched an eyebrow. He knew what gods were, but they were mythical beings that didn't exist. There were some merpeople who believed in the existence of gods as separate beings, who had nothing to do with them.
"...Yeah, I'll believe that when I see some solid proof," he retorted, flatly. He seemed to find it amusing.

Emy just smiled softly. "The whole point is to have faith, Leandre." She kissed his cheek and swam upwards a little.

"Blind faith is something I can't stand," Léan offered, idly, as a response. He followed her, spotting a school of fish in the distance.

Emy stopped and looked at him, blinking slightly. "So...if I had faith in you...would that be blind faith?"

"That is different. You can see me, touch me. You have definitive proof that I exist." Léan stretched his tail out a bit. "Whether or not it is blind faith depends on how well you know me, as well."

Emy blinked slightly, thinking a little. "Well...I have to admit...I do not know you as much as I'd like too...but I do have complete faith in you."

Léan paused in his swimming, tail swishing back and forth in a happy manner. "I see. I never have complete faith in anyone, I'm sorry to say. I...had a bad childhood. It's difficult for me to place my trust in people. However, I trust you more than most."

Emy smiled at what he said. "Well, I'm happy that you do. Means I'm worth something." She didn't really like that his childhood made him not have complete faith in anyone.

"Of course." Léan returned his attention to the fish. "There is a school up there. Try to sneak up on them. Move slowly. Snatch them with your hands or mouth..."

Emy was distracted by the fish now. She smiled as she tried to do as she was told. Watching where the school was looking and tried to stay out of site as she snuck up on them. She suddenly lunged for them when she thought she was close enough, almost getting one but they were faster than she'd thought and it got through her fingers. She pouted slightly and watched the school swim away a little further away. Then she looked determined.

Léan seemed pleased, and didn't laugh. That had been quite good for her first try at hunting. Most didn't even get too close to the fish. Quietly, he watched her, not giving any advice. He would let her figure it out on her own.

Emy was so absorbed into catching one now that she hadn't even remembered that he was there. She waited a moment before she started sneaking up on them again, hiding behind a large rock for a moment. Then slowly moving up to them, keeping out of their sight.

Léan, seeing that she was set, began to keep an eye out for other dangers. It wasn't just merpeople that liked to eat the surface-dwelling fish. Sharks and whales loved them.

Léan grinned, then frowned. "You had better kill it, before it gets away," he reminded her, reluctantly. He wasn't sure if she wanted to kill it or not...

Emy's face fell, she was no longer happy that she caught the fish. The first thought in her head was to let it go. She looked at Leandre and back at the fish. "I can't..."

Léan held out his hands. "I can do it for you," he offered, solemnly. If she wanted to be any good at hunting, she would have to learn how to hunt properly. And that did mean killing the fish once it was captured.

Emy starred at the fish, then at Leandre, there was a saddness in her eyes. She didn't want to kill the fish...but she knew she'd have to...to survive if nothing else. She shook her head slowly. "Just...tell me how. I'll do it."

"If you want to do it quickly, you snap the spine in half, rupturing the spinal cord. Instant death," Léan replied, simply. He was used to killing fish himself for food, since he'd been doing it all his life.

Emy thought about it for a moment, then nodded slightly. It took her a moment, but she agusted her grip on the fish. "Please forgive me." She breathed. Then swiftly snapped its spine, flinched when she did.

Léan could see that this was going to be a problem. It was much more difficult to go vegetarian in the world of merpeople. Sea plants were not very varied, and it was difficult to get nutrients.
