Emy took it as it was okay, which is what she was hoping he'd said. She couldn't understand, so she hoped the other did not talk to her.

The merman looked between the two for a moment, then returned the greeting. Name's Montegro. Monty for short.

Léan nodded, then slowly steered Emy away, to pick up the one weapon they had already found. We're taking a route through rivers to get to the Bering Sea. We're looking for weapons like these, to defend ourselves with in case of emergency.

Monty eyed Emy's slightly nervous expression for a moment. Then he nodded again. There are a few in the back. I have mine, which has the steel tip. The rest you can choose from at will.

Léan took Emy's hand. Thank you. We appreciate it. He quietly led her towards the designated area, and took three more of the ten or so weapons. He left the steel-tip alone. He handed two to Emy, along with backstraps that were there, as well.

Emy was relieved to be out of the merman's sight. It made her want to hide whenever he looked at her the way he did. She took the weapons she was handed and the backstrap. Though it took her a minute to get it on.

Monty waited for a moment, suddenly very curious about the girl, Emy. Something was off about her. He approached them slowly, though made sure they knew he meant no harm. If you'd like, I could be a guide for you. I've been up through the rivers a good number of times.

Léan blinked, instinctively shifting in front of Emy. It was an odd thing to do, considering most mermaids could hold their own against a fully-grown merman in a fight. It was why rapes and violence against women underwater were not common.

I don't want to impose. The decision is up to you, Léan informed him, simply.

Emy was grateful for the action, not thinking twice about it. She had no idea about what happened underwater.

Though, his movement made Monty raise an eyebrow. Well, if its not a problem, I think I will accompany you. Until you reach the pacific of course.

I don't have a problem with that. Neither of us know our way around the inland rivers very well, anyway. Léan was grateful for the extra help. He had a feeling he was going to have to tell Monty the truth about Emy, though. He was already highly suspicious.

Emy suddenly looked like she didn't know what was going on, but she knew it had to invlove her somehow.

Monty grinned slightly. "Looks like you're lucky your mate found my cave."

Quite...I've never traveled the rivers, myself...I stay in the oceans. Fresh water makes me nervous. And it was true. Rivers and lakes made him nervous. Humans were more likely to locate him.

Emy heard something in his voice and she gently place a hand on his arm and smiled softly at him. She remembered she couldn't speak, so she just smiled.

Monty looked thoughtful for a moment. I can understand that. If you stay to the deeper parts of rivers and stay away from prime fishing areas, you shouldn't run into any humans.

I still don't like the idea. Then again, I don't think I ever will. Léan bowed his head for a moment, in thought, and patted Emy's hand.

Emy hated not being able to speak to Leadre, it was already starting to eat away at her. She gave the merman a sort of glare, waiting for him to move. She'd gotten the idea that he was coming with them and didn't like it one bit.

Monty blinked when she glared at him, sort of surprised then went and grabbed his spear. Shall we?

Sure. Unless, you have anything you need to do before you leave. Léan could feel Emy's growing irritation, and patted her arm. I'm sorry. She doesn't like strangers.

Emy just looked at the other man, only slightly noticing Leandre patting her arm.

Monty shook his head slightly. No. I have nothing to do. Then he nodded his head once. I guess I can understand that.

All right. Lead the way. Léan felt much more confident, strange as it was, to have someone who knew their way around completely leading the way.

Emy looked at Monty defensively. She wouldn't go until he did.

Monty looked at Emy oddly, then nodded to Leandre. Alright, lets go. He then turned and started swimming off towards land.

Léan followed after Monty, holding onto Emy's hand. He was making sure to keep an eye on both her and Monty. He didn't want anything bad to happen.

Emy swam slightly close to Leandre, without getting in his way. She was suspicious of this Monty, she thought thats what his name was. She glanced at them both, then just followed silently. Though, that was starting to bug her.

Monty didn't look back once, he figured they'd be following, so he really didn't have a reason to.

((You want to skip forward a day to four days, so that they're already getting further and further inland by following rivers? We could have something happen that reveals that Emy's a changed human...since she'd be getting tired of being silent by then.))

Léan had absolutely no idea where he was going. All he knew that was he didn't quite like the taste or feel or fresh water, compared to salt water. He seemed pleased with how quickly they were moving, since he wanted to see his brother.

He could see the task of being silent was wearing on Emy. He'd decided, the day before, that if she wanted to reveal herself...she could, and he would protect her.

Emy was getting sick and tired of not being able to talk. This new guy was getting on her nerves and she wanted to speak her mind, but knew it was dangerous to do so.

Monty had let them up through the rivers, out of wandering human eyes. He'd gotten highly suspicious of the girl they claimed was called Emy. She didn't appear to understand them when they spoke for one.

Léan gave Emy's hand a reassuring squeeze. He gave her a look that plainly said... '...If you are tired of it...by all means, reveal yourself. I won't let him hurt you.'

Emy nodded slightly to him, she would when she had something to say. Right now, it wasn't important.
