Tip/Wag - Marshall Islands & Disney World Fate | June 15, 2010 - Carl Safina | ColbertNation.com

Around 2:56, the segment on the Disney World Fate story starts.

Do you believe in fate? Do you have a surprising story like what this couple shared? :)

I don't believe in fate but i do feel that there are some things that are truly meant to happen and there is nothing that can be done to change it.

I'm not sure I believe in fate, per say, but as the person above me said, some things are truly meant to happen.

Meeting my current boyfriend and the man I plan to marry was.. insane. I had a friend I'd made on Gaia through the means of a practical joke I never planned to pull. She was the first to talk to me afterwards, and we stayed friends for years. She met this group of people in World of Warcraft and joined a forum they all frequented.. right when she was planning on quitting. Ended up sticking with it to become VERY good friends with them all, and made me join their forums.
One of the people she met was Nick. <3 And he was a moderator there. And the first person I ended up talking to.

Going on sixteen months now. :3

It's so weird how if one small thing was different I never would have met the man of my dreams. :[

It won't let me view the video :<

But yea, I do in certain aspects. I don't believe fate has any say in little things. Like if I were to drop a glass and it shatters, I don't think fate has determined that glass was supposed to break at that particular time. I'd like to think I control my life, but sometimes, it's just too big a coincidence to say there wasn't something at work here. I don't believe in a higher power, such as God or Allah, etc. I just like to think there's some kind of mystical forces out there, helping us along the way to achieve our goals.

I'm not sure. I don't believe in fate in the sense that predestined things will occur... but I do believe certain people have a spiritual connection.

Wow when I first read Spider Lily's reply I thought she said she didn't believe in fate but did believe in fortune cookies. I think that less then 5 hours of sleep might be messing with me.

I don't believe in fate at all. Not even a little bit. But I do believe in karma.

I don't believe in any kind of higher power, and I don't see how fate could possibly exist naturally. =P
Grim, why do you believe in karma but not fate?

Well first off I am a religious man unlike you. I believe in God but I do not believe that everything is Gods will simply because he gave humans free will. Free will naturally throws fate and destiny out the window. I also don't believe God knows the future or has a specific purpose for us because I have read repeatedly in the bible that God regretted making man. Now if God knew what was going to happen how could He possibly have regrets. Things may change later but for now humans just seem to be coasting. So thats why I don't believe in fate.

Now on to karma. The bible does tell us that you reap what you sow and according to karma, performing positive actions results in a good condition in one's experience, whereas a negative action results in a bad effect and you suffer the consequences. Karma says God implements karma's consequences and again the bible tells us that God takes care of punishment. I am also a big believer in cause and effect and karma is literally "the law of cause and effect". Although I don't believe in every aspect of karma I do believe in a lot of it. I also believe in Yin and Yang and some other aspects of other eastern religions.

Whats sad is that if you try and explain that Christianity has alot in common with other religions most Christians will try and hang you. I don't even go to church anymore.

Wow, that was a very good explanation of why you believe in karma but not fate. Thank you very much for that, actually.

Heck no, I don't believe in fate!

I'm with the Terminator films on this one: there is no fate but what we make!
