I think that there is already a thread somewhere for pet pics, but this is for dog lovers only! Do you have dogs? What breed, and what are their names? If you don't have a dog but want one, what kind would you get?

I just recently got a dog (first time dog owner!) She is a 3-yr old chihuahua sheperd mix. I named her Mercedes.

I have a Maltese mix with something. She was a rescue puppy and is just about the most annoying dog ever! I lover her to death though and could not picture life without her. She just turned a year.
As for the barking thing, PetSmart offers awesome training classes that are POSITIVE. Negative reinforcement like bark collars and things like that just cause more stress. I took my dog through training at PetSmart and she's doing pretty good with the obedience part. She also does not bark all the time like she used to. Most of it was because I gave her something to do and she realizes that other dogs are not a threat to her and either are people walking down the street or whatever else she can bark at.

@Mystic: Malteses are small, right? She sounds cute! And as for the training... it will be tough. I am trying, but its my first dog, and she is 3 yrs old (but I just got her). I think I will need to enroll her in obedience class!

Yep, my Ferra is an itty bitty doggie. She's only 10lbs and I swear most of her weight is hair! lol She's just a big fuzzy ball. She's a lot of work as far as hair goes but I just love the look of long hair when it's all brushed out and nice looking.
As far as obedience classes go, you really have to be careful where you go. There are a lot of places that use negative reinforcement and it is not good for the dog to use methods like choke collars and things like that. PetSmart does not encourage that which is why I was so happy with the classes. I used to be a trainer there too years and years ago and it was always a lot of fun to be able to interact with so many people and their dogs.

Mercedes also really wants to play with the cats. Too bad they don't feel the same way!

@Tezonic: My boyfriend really wanted a Husky, but they are just too big for our apartment. They are beautiful dogs; I just love their blue eyes!

I have two dogs right now. Angel is a akita/ chow chow mix, and her hubby is a chihuahua/ maltese mix, whose name is Skipper. We've had them for almost ten years now.
