Hmmm... I was just looking at the User-run events of the past, and it seems like nobody has held one during the Fall season yet. Just earlier on in the year or during summer.
I say if we want to try it, then go for it. The worst that can happen is that we learn from experience that Fall user-run events are a bad idea. ;D
On the other hand, if we want a really big gigantic bash, we can go for that, but there runs a larger element of risk for failure to get it off the ground at all.
I personally don't have a huge opinion about this.... Fall or Summer, either way is fine by me right now. ^__^;;; Sorry if I'm not being helpful.

All righty..
Ex 1
This project was inspired by the current trend of 3D movies and blending the real and the not so real worlds into one. The Queen Angle fish featured here I actually painted over an actual photo to create an artsy digital effect and attempted to retain much of the original photo realistic detail.
This was purely Photoshop.
Ex 2
This second one is a stylized vector pop art poster. Special thanks to my friend for the photo. :P
I used Illustrator and Photoshop for this one.
If you want to see more you'd have to give me a day or two to drive over to my actual workstation. :)

Yeah, that was another reason I liked that time.
But there might be a reason for that.
There is no big risk for that since we got this one up we can make another summer one happen.
That is fine Mai.
It is really all the same for me too.
I just don't love the idea of planning for a year.
----------
Wow, nice pics Soda.
As of right now I'm not sure what to have you work on since this is the first day of planning and we are still working on the last event. lol
Any ideas?

Yes I was not expecting to have anything to go off by this point. I'd prefer you guys to have a chosen theme at least to begin early designs. :)
Well my main thought signage wise is I'm wondering what time line you'd want this casino. Weather you want a theme from 2010 or Vegas in the early 1900s. :P The only reason I say this is if so we could play with a design movement from that time line and mold the theme to make it fit. Or I could design the banners around a particularly famous hotel... Just throwing around idea's here. :)
As for your event date issues my main thing is just give me at least a month of "This is our specific theme choice" and I'll be a happy camper. That is if you guys decide to have me help of course. :D

Oh and I'm glad you like my Avatar lol, I'm sure Soda is beaming with pride. *laughs*

Basically trying to figure out whether or not to hold the event during the fall and possibly fail at getting a good turn-out, or in the summer and possibly failing to see it through until then. Weighing out the pros and cons? We'd really appreciate more input though. XD

If you do decide on a summer date, don't start booking artists and getting hosts together right now. Wait a months before doing that.
If you are using that season focus now on donations and ideas for games. Take this advantage to brain storm truly unique games, stuff nobody has done before (but makes sense and is reasonable). Your time permits this. Collect donations of very valuable items and really brainstorm ideas to step outside of the box.
A lot of things haven't been done in the user-event category. When I was planning mine I incorporated unique ideas that nobody did yet, and that was a few years ago (this event was not Midsummer Night's Dream). My event never went underway because I was placed on staff and it was chaos for me.
I'd just start collecting, by yourself, donations. That way you wont have to re-give the donation if the idea falls through. Start collecting from others a few months prior to the actual event. Advertise in unique ways, believe me you can do a lot with spoilers/teasers to get excitement.
Just my two cents. I've done this before and I know the experience. Just trying to help you. :)

@Soda- The theme will definatly be Casino. Not sure yet if it is going to be one big casino or a strip of casinos.
Hadn't thought about the time period.
I guess just current. Like we came together and made an actual casino strip in Menewsha. We could use ideas from real hotels but try to make it our own. Ya know?
Of course you can help.
And I will definatly give you a month. Even if I have to kick the others into shape. lol
@Emma- Mai summed it up very well

All right well once you guys get more together and have picked a date I'll be happy to help out. I agree with King, things are to early to be jumping into art and such.
Space casino! haha nice.
I'll come back and check in on this stuff later. For now I gotta fly, good luck all. :)

@King- I'm still not sure when we plan on doing it.
And I like to let the hosts make their own games so thinking up my own ideas doesn't help. I might find 10 hosts and none of them agree to host my ideas.
And the simple fact is that if it goes like the past event I will be funding 75% of it myself so donations will not be a big deal.
And I hate to say it but on Menewsha there have been very few events and I don't see a lot springing up. Like you said a lot hasn't been done.
I don't worry about it not happening if I say I will host it. It might be a pain and I might have to completely find new help but it will happen. I don't back out of deals.
And I've done it before too. This is my second time to run, and my fourth time hosting. I know what I'm up against. I know that in all likelyhood a volcano will pop up under this thread and destory everything. But I will not back down.
----------
I agree we shouldn't have artist making art already and jumping into certain things. Especially if we have it in May.
But I like some certain things. Like will anyone even like the theme? Will I have any help?
Etc.
I like the space casino idea but that might get hard to do.

-cuddles Lilith and cheers for- We can do it! Maybe we can try something new for advertising now and all, andand attract more attention and more donations.

Yeah, but it would explain how it got there. And we now have got Robo CI for outfits. C:

That's a great idea, the hosts make the game. The only problem is you really can't plan ahead for things like that. On all the user events I've seen put together usually you will always get volunteers to host whatever games you create. Put everyone who wants to volunteer on a sheet and a few weeks or so before the event ask them to pick what they want to host, first come first serve.
Yes, the lack of events on the site is going to be ending very soon. The staff has addressed this numerously and we already have things planned real soon (see Aimee's thread in this forum). The Event Coordinating staff has been brainstorming really unique ideas for our traditional holidays, with the help of the Moderators we have also put together various activities for downtime. :)

For feast of Fools, Lilith already did that - hosts make the game. Sure, it was a little troublesome if they backed out, but not more than when you had to find a new host for a certain thing.

Well based on user controlled content (No offense staff and such), sigs are the number one wide spread form of adverts as have been done.
Another option would be to create a special banner/sign to be placed in the first page of user created topics. Hang outs, shops, RPs, etc. Basically static signs. This may be more effective to be seen more widely as some users may never see the sig of another if they do not frequent the same area's.
Targeting the busiest sections of the forums would be effective,
To advertise and generate hype I'd say running a small pre event would be a great idea. A taste of the icing before you give the kids cake.
*scratches head*

Hmmm - I think a long event would be fun - especially with that space casino theme - I think that would be a wicked fun twist on everything
Also - with a longer event - we could have more options for games and people could work in shifts - like, certain games are only played on certain days spread out through the event - ya know?
Wehneh - what if we (meaning the hosts) all had artwork done in wacked-out space casino outfits?
And our banners were outlandish and decked out?
Maybe sparkly/glittery or flashy or something?
Like, bright lights :3
-
As for the pre-event event, I don't think it would be very beneficial because it'd be the same theme done twice and would be a bit repetitive :(

@Rainy- *hugs* thanks ^^
I'm no good on the advertising side of things. I don't talk much and stay in like three threads. lol
I should hire people to do that
The robot CI would be prefect for that.
Exactly, it wasn't horrible this time.
@Soda- really just siggy banners
and general word of mouth
I had thought about having an art auction or something for the last one but I ran out of time
@King- As sadrain said I did it this time and really didn't have any problems. Yeah people backed out and we had to come up with a whole new thread.
But if they make their own game it has more flavor to it and they want to make it great because it is their idea.
Cool to hear that
But if the others want to do it like King said fine.
I just hate the idea of having one person doing basicly everything and then just dumping her/his ideas on others.
