Fiction portion winners:
This was one heck of a tough call. Now you'll all notice one entry up, but in actuality, there were two. The second was sent to me via Google documents and, by the time I was granted access to it so that I might put it up, I was unable to edit the writing contest thread. As it is, both of the entries were quite good, each for different reasons, and it was the most difficult bit of the contest to judge.
Fairywaif's tale brought all whole new host of races to life, complete with their own quirks and specialized dialects. So too did she show a certain aptitude for world building which is, arguably, one of the most difficult parts of creating a good story.
Zeapear's story detailed life on a mission in space or, more specifically what happens when something goes wrong and a crew ends up trapped in space for a number of years displayed a good grasp of various mechanisms/technologies and her character interactions were very believable.
In the end, I have decided that first place will be awarded to
fairywaif: and second will go to
zeapear:. However, as the two were both well crafted and it was exceedingly difficult to pick one over the other, I will be awarding the third place prize so that the first and second place prizes are of equivalent value (as there wasn't a third entry and our two contestants are both top prize winners in my eyes).
