From what I was told when I was little at school, but Wikipedia makes it seem like it's false...
St George is the Patron Saint of England, and he killed a dragon, on his own, to protect England.

O_o
that doesn't really seem plausible ... and I have never heard anything about any of that before ... innnnnterestinnngg ...

----------

I'm going to guess "the dragon" is similar to how on St. Patrick's Day it's for him "running the snakes out of Ireland" when the snakes refer to certain old religions and cults. I'm sure that means "the dragon" is reference to some sort of foreign leader or something. I'm just surprised it's something I have never heard of before.

I'm not entirely sure, but that's what we were told when I was about 6
it's the same sort of thing as st patrick though

well, it's sorta sad that everybody knows about St. Patrick but not many know about St. George. oh well, that is history for you.

It's probably only 'cos it's St Patrick, Irish, Guinness (or however it's spelt), an excuse to get absolutely plastered.
Mum just said a lot of Irish went to America too, so that's why the Americans tend to celebrate the patron saint of ireland

Last edited by Star Valo; 04-24-2011 at 10:55 AM.. Reason: Correcting teh spelling of "Guinnes"

At the snooker yesterday there were people wearing England shirts and waving the English flag.

I'll mention Saint Andrew to complete the set of patron saints of the British Isles. XD

Oh, the many uses of these British memorabilia being marketed for the Royal wedding.

Speaking of, do you think Mene'll give us something like a little British flag on the day of Wills and Kate's wedding? :P

That would be sweet.

In Tesco they had royal wedding memorabilia even though the majority of Scottish people I know either don't care or don't like it. -_-

It's my mum's birthday today (May 2nd as it's not the 2nd over here, 1:05am)
So i've got her card and we're going out to eat for dinner

Cats are picky
as are dogs
My dog will never throw up on the Lino, or outside when the doors are wide open, always on the kitchen Carpet...

well, tell your mom happy birthday from me!

my folks took me and my son out for breakfast on my last birthday. shocked my socks off!!

it just annoys me because it's super easy to clean of the linoleum and super pain in the ass to clean it up from the carpet! why can't they understand that? ... or maybe they DO understand that and are trying to make us suffer because they are suffering ...
