My father-in-law had a Brostrom repair decades ago, and (though it's a moot point now that he's basically paralyzed from the waist down) his ankle was never the same.

The podiatrist did warn me, at my appointment yesterday, that another sprain would pretty much be an automatic ticket to surgery. :( I'm going to be vewwy vewwy caweful.

That sounds like a good idea, *nod nod*. I have permanent spine damage from one of the jobs I worked when I was younger, and I have to keep my neck strong otherwise I get spasms. It's a pain in the ass, xD;

*giggles* You so silly~ <3;

But yeah, if I don't take care of it, the pain becomes extremely unbearable to the point that I can't sleep. And medicine doesn't help it either, so it's better just to not let it happen.

*nodnod* Yeah, my foot/ankle is like that. If I go a few days without the exercises, the pain comes back. I do the exercises for two days, boom, no pain. Same with my shoulder/arm/hand thing, with the overactive ulnar nerve.

:XD aren't bodies lovely?

Yessss. That is the main issue for if we figure out immortality. Sure, we might never die due to old age, but piling up all these abuses over time? Yeahhhhh. Gonna have to resort to becoming part robot, :O

Have you read Heinlein's books about this very subject? I forget which ones they are, but one of his universes features people who basically live forever, though they regularly have to get plastic surgery.

I haven't read those books, no. But they do sound kind of interesting. I could probably write science fiction with the amount of science I have in my past, xD;

Heinlein's juvenile fiction is really great. His later stuff, though, gets rather creepy, but it's still interesting to read if you don't think too deeply about his concept of family dynamics.

Well, in his world, incest is apparently okay. His logic gets really warped, too, about nudity and privacy.

Ahhh. That's okay. One of those "fun" things I learned in sociology was that the taboo portion of incest was brought about many ages ago by dads who didn't want their sons going after their wives. At one point, incest was probably actually okay, xD;

*shrugs* I've heard that one theory is that children raised as siblings, who encounter each other before the age of five, tend to be averse to sexual relations with each other. Like, I can think of my sister as a sexual being, but I'm not attracted to her the way I'm attracted to other men and women.

Besides, what dominates my thoughts about incest is the fact that my grandfather raped both his children, and it basically led to my father's death, as he dealt with the trauma by gaining weight to the point of morbid obesity. I consider myself pretty lucky to have never been abused, considering that it's usually a cycle passed down generation after generation. I certainly got a very early sex education, particularly about what molestation and abuse were, and how to respond. We had some great books, including one I remember called Your Body Is Your Own.

*wonders if this topic is appropriate for PG-13*

You aren't going into unnecessary details, so it is okay. That sounds like a very bad experience that your dad went through, and I'm sorry to hear that. And it sounds like you were well educated about the subject too! Lots of people I know don't know what abuse is, or if they do, they don't care unless it reaches a critical mass point.

*nodnod* Yeah, I get really angry when, say, in the course of a class, the topic of abuse comes up, and students start giggling. Of course, they don't really know that it's a serious topic, or they can't handle it -- so they giggle. Humor is often a protective shell for discomfort. But whenever I can, I make sure they understand that, for people who've experienced any kind of abuse, whether physical, sexual, or even that amorphous thing called emotional abuse, it's not a funny topic, and taking it seriously can help us understand it better. (Usually in the context of film or music, since those are the courses I teach.)

Aww, I miss that feeling. Well, I'll still be on vacation while everyone's going back to school, lol. But then it will just be back to boring old work. Blah.

I MISS MY CAT.

LOL, I've been morbid lately. Comes from having to TA a course on horror films. On Monday we did Rosemary's Baby. *SHUDDER*

Today's my day off, in a way, too! I have no obligations outside the house, so I'm planning on loafing most of the day. Reading a bit, maybe writing some.
